I spent a day yesterday to install Linux on VMware, my machine is T40 (512M), the memory is expanded to 512, so for the slightness of Linux in VMware or basically enough, Linux is the 9.0 of Redhat, Newly bought (not D version, don't yell at me, I don't have MONEY: ().

1. First installed VMware on the machine, version is VMware-WorkStation-4.0.5-6030, you can go to its official website to download, then download a registration machine or registration code, I use the registration code:

M1ER8-HRW45-N0HFP-4U0JM. If the installation of VMware is not mentioned, follow the prompts to install.

2, after the VMware is installed, you can get a Virtual Machine in it. The type is selected for Linux. 3. After the Virtual Machine is built, insert Linux's first CD into the optical drive, click on VMware.

START THIS Virtual Machine ", start this VM, and boot the disc for startup, enter the installation step. Please refer to other Linux installation instructions. Not much here, just need to install it according to the prompt.

4. After the installation of Linux, you also need to install the VMware Tools on this VM, otherwise it is difficult to use this Linux, follow the next to the installation instructions for netizens.

Install the VMware Tools steps as follows:

1. Enter Linux as root

2, press the Ctrl Alt key button, enter the main operation system, click the VMware status bar to install the prompt, or click the Enable VMware Tools submenu under the Setting menu.

3, confirm the installation of VMware Tools.

At this time, we didn't really install the VMware Tools package. If you click on the menu: Devices, you will find the optical drive menu text to: IDE1: 0-> C: / Program Files / VMware / VMware Workstation / Programs /Linux.iso, this means that VMware will use Linux's ISO image file as a virtual machine.

4, click on the Linux interface and enter Linux.

5, run the following command, pay attention to case.

Mount -t ISO9660 / dev / cdrom / mnt

Load the CDROM device, if you enter the / mnt directory, you will find more files: vmware-linux-tools.tar.gz. This is the Linux package of WMware Tools, that is, we just saw the Linux.iso file using Winiso.

Cp /mnt/vmware-linux-tools.tar.gz / TMP

Copy the package to the TMP directory of Linux.

Umount / dev / cdrom

Uninstall CDROM.

CD / TMP

Enter the TMP directory

TAR ZXF VMware-Linux-Tools.Tar.gz

Unzip the package, default to the VMware-Linux-Tools directory (with the file name).

CD VMware-Linux-Tools

Enter the directory after the decompression

./install.pl

Run the installation command.

At this time INSTALL prompts you if you need to back up your previous configuration file, it is recommended to select "Y". After waiting for the install run, type the start command, is it possible to see the beautiful Linux graphical interface?
