1. Uninstall the redhat Linux 9 comes with the GAIM0.59: RPM-E Gaim
2. Download GAIM0.80 and its relying on the package gtkspell2.0.4:

3. Install gtkspell2.0.4: rpm -ivh gtkspell-2.0.4-fr3.i386.rpm --Nodeps --force
4. Install GAIM0.80: RPM -IVH GAIM-0.80-0RH9.I386.rpm --Nodeps --force
5. Run GAIM0.80: Start menu -> Internet -> More Internet Apps -> Gaim Internet Messenger
