JDK installation under Linux

I recently installed a Redhat Linux9.0 with a VMware virtual machine and decided to play Java under Linux.

First install JDK, I downloaded 1.4.2 version of the RPM.bin security package from the Sun's website, first solving RPM, then install, OK in RPM.

Then modify the / etc / profile file, set the corresponding java_home / classpath / path, then execute Source / etc / profile, run Java, the result is wrong, the report is incorrect, said that the object class, halo, I don't know how to do it.

I haven't resolved for a long time, and finally I downloaded a 1.5 version of JDK again.

CHMOD A X JDK1.5 rpm.bin

RPM-IV JDK1.5 rpm.bin

Modify / etc / profile

Source / ETC / PROFILE

Java

Yes, a familiar picture, why 1.5 version is good and the 1.4.2 version is not.

Confusion, but 1.5 can use 1.5
