SQL Server service components

Use SQL Server service administrators

Use Windows 2000 Service Control Administrator

Use SQL Server Enterprise Manager

Summary of this chapter

You can start executing when you install Microsoft SQL Server 2000. Before using Microsoft SQL Server 2000 access information, you must first learn how to start SQL Server's service components and components, such as SQL Server Agent, Distributed Transaction Coordinator, and Full-text Search Engine Microsoft Search. These components belong to part of the SQL Server service, which is executed for independent jobs. This chapter discusses details of all components and discusses how to start, stop service components, and how to use three management tools (SQL Server Service Administrators, SQL Server Enterprise Manager, and Microsoft Windows 2000 service administrators).

Description

Although SQL Server 2000 can also be executed in Microsoft Windows NT 4, the focus of this chapter will be placed in the implementation of SQL Server 2000 in Microsoft Windows 2000. Under the job platform of Microsoft Windows 98, SQL Server is like a general execution file and does not support service components. It is therefore not within the discussion of this chapter.

Enterprise Manager is very important for managing SQL Server. Its service range contains the establishment of a database and object, setting the setting and management of the server option, and the reproduction function, and backup management. This chapter will only focus on its management functions of SQL Server and service components, and other services will be mentioned in subsequent sections.

The "Server" service "mentioned in SQL Server Server, represents a program or program executable function, or supports other programs. When you start using SQL Server, SQL Server service will start in Windows NT or Windows 2000. Serving this project can manage database files, process Transact-SQL (T-SQL) statements, configure connected resources, confirm the consistency of information, and more. Just install the execution of SQL Server, each executable service name is MSSQL $ INSTANCENAME, and the different name is given the name $ InstanceName when setting the installation. Each SQL Server Agent corresponding to perform an individual is called SQLAGENT $ InstanceName. With the two services of a Distributed Trading Coordinator and the full-text search engine, even if there is more than one execution individual, there is only one unified service name. These three service components are included in the copyright of your SQL Server, which occurs in the SQL Server Agent preset option when installing SQL Server. If you do not have a Distributed Trading Coordinator or a full-text search engine service, you can re-execute the installation program of SQL Server.

SQL Server Agent support job schedule, start operation execution, issuing alert, notice, and database repair plan. If you have less service components, managers are difficult to perform these work. The SQL Server Agent program can automate the routine database service. For example, the automatic execution of the database backup is set at one o'clock every night, or sets automatically to automatically perform the transaction record file every thirty minute. If you want to check the performance performance of the system, you can set a functional state. If you use more than 90% of the CPU, you will issue alert. These services mentioned above can be performed manually, or set to automatically start the service element when SQL Server starts. Setting automatic startup ensures that the service component is executed. In Chapter 30, we will learn how to establish a database maintenance program. Chapter 31 will learn how to use SQL Server Agent to set job schedules, start operation, and make alert and notification. Decentralized trading coordinators can coordinate remote database information from different sources, allowing a transaction to be updated on several remote servers. If the transaction is recognized, the transaction manager will ensure that all information sources are synchronized with permanent updates; if the transaction is errors, you need to reply to updates in all information sources. Chapter 25 of this book will discuss a more detailed discussion of the decentralized trading coordinator.

The full-text search engine service can launch Microsoft SEACH in the SQL Server service administrator to use the index and search engine for full-text retrieval. The full text search index allows for more complex search in the character string. For example, you can use the search service to find similar single words or words.

As mentioned before this chapter, you can use several tools to start or stop SQL Server service components: SQL Server Server Administrator, SQL Server Enterprise Manager, and Windows 2000 service administrators. First let's see SQL Server service administrators, we can use it to control all service components, such as SQL Server Agents, Decentralized Trading Coordinator, and Full-text Search Engine.

Use the SQL Server service administrator to start or stop SQL Server service using SQL Server service administrators, refer to the following steps (SQL Server service can also be paused, and below will show how to pause.)

Press the start / program set, select Microsoft SQL Server, then select the SQL Server service administrator to enter the service administrator's application, as shown in Figure 8-1.

Figure 8-1 SQL Server Service Administrator

The native server and service options are displayed in the drop-down list of the SQL Server service administrator dialog box. In the drop-down list of services, select the service you want to manage. (Note! Service administrators can also manage other server on the network through the network). The service components that can be managed in the service drop-down clearance include: SQL Server, Distributed Transaction Coordinator, Microsoft Search, and SQL Server Agent. Select the corresponding button to start / continue, stop or suspend the service. There is a log of a circle (introveted) in the dialog box, which can display the current state of the selected service. If the service of SQL Server is paused, click Start / Continue to restart the service. The reason for using pause instead of stop is that SQL Server prevents users from logging in, allowing you to send messages to users who have connected SQL Server, please end the work, and log out before the server is stopped. If you don't pay first, stop SQL Server, and all server programs will be interrupted immediately. The service administrator in the execution will update the screen every five seconds. To change this setting, you can display the system function table according to the small icon in the upper left corner of the dialog. Select the option to display the SQL Server service administrator dialog box, as shown in Figure 8-2. Figure 8-2 "SQL Server Service Administrator Options" dialog

Enter a new time interval in the polling interval. If you select the authentication service control action, the service administrator will pop up a dialogue to verify each action that starts, suspend, or stops the service. Once you change these two settings, the time interval and verification service control movements of the four service components will change together.

Note If the SQL Server Service and SQL Server Agent Services are not set automatically, you should start.

Using Windows 2000 Services Control administrators You can use the Windows 2000 Server service control administrator to launch or stop the unit or remote SQL Server service. Or Set the Windows 2000 service control administrator to automatically start the SQL Server service when the system is turned on. The following steps are set:

Press the Start / Program Set / System Management Tool to select the service to turn on the service control administrator, as shown in Figure 8-3. Select Distributed Transaction Coordinator, Microsoft Search, MSSQLServer, or SQLServerAgent in the service list. The items that choose to start will enter the content screen in two off, as shown in Figure 8-4.

Auto, manually or deactivated in the drop-down list of start-up types. Automatic options can automatically start the service component after the system is started, and the manual option is manually selected service components, and the deactivation option is to stop the service element. Press to determine the storage settings. There are other three tabs in the content window. Login tab can specify a login identity, which is the account when the service component logins. The repair tab can set the response taken when the service element is faulty. The dependency tab will display the dependency between the selected service components and other service components (depending on the relationship is not necessarily existing). The so-called dependency relationship, for example, SQL Server Agent Services has dependent on SQL Server, and if the SQL Server service is terminated, the SQL Server agent cannot be started.

Using SQL Server Enterprise Manager Enterprise Manager is part of Microsoft Management Console (MMC). MMC is a centralized management application, all-round managing systems architectures scheduled on Windows 2000 Server. In 2000 and future versions of Windows, MMC management for Microsoft BackOffice applications, etc. (for example, Microsoft Exchange Server, Microsoft Proxy Server, Microsoft Site Server, Microsoft Systems Management Server and Microsoft SNA Server), will play an important role. Managing SQL Server Enterprise Manager is the most complete tool for management and setting SQL Server; service administrators only allow startup, suspend, or stop a service, but Enterprise Manager can perform the following tasks in addition to booting or stopping services: registration server settings Native and remote server settings and managing multi-server installation configuration setting login security, new users, system administrators, and operators specify system administrator (SA) password establishment and scheduling job establishment alert and set SQL Server Contacts and Manages Database, Data Sheets, Index, Review, Precursors, Rules, Triggers, Preset, Backup Devices, and Error Logs, ENTERPRISE MANAGER (as shown) 8-5) Managing all SQL Server tasks. This chapter will learn the foundation of Enterprise Manager, and the advanced use methods will learn in subsequent chapters of this book. Figure 8-5 SQL Server Enterprise Manager screen

Using the etnerprise manager to do the following four jobs, these jobs must be performed before the SQL Server installation is used. Each job will have more detailed explanations later: Establishing a server group to establish a server group is that certain information can only be allowed to access. If some accounts are similar to the type of use of resources, they should be placed in the same group to facilitate management. The registration server must register your server in MMC to manage the server using MMC. Access servo After registering the server, you can check and set some properties. If the network is in a multi-servo environment, Enterprise Manager can be used to manage and set all the servers.

Change System Administrator Preset Password When the SQL Server installation is complete, the preset management system account is not a password. You have to set a password before starting using SQL Server. Establishing Server Group Enterprise Manager can be used to establish a server group to help manage jobs. The server group allows you to return the relevant server to a class for easy access, you can imagine the server group to be a folder, and the data clip is put in the relevant file. The advantage is that the server can be changed in the group as long as an command is performed, and the same command is required to repeat the same command on each server. Depending on the preset value, when installing SQL Server, a SQL Server group is created, namely the SQL Server group. The servo group can be established in accordance with the following steps:

Press Start / Program Set / Microsoft SQL Server] / Enterprise Manager to enable Enterprise Manager applications. The Windows on the left of Enterpise Manager displays the SQL Server groups for the subdirectory under Microsoft SQL Servers. The window on the right is the illustration of the server group. Press the right button on Microsoft SQL Server to select a group of groups in the quick-add SQL Server group in the flash function table. Enter a new group name in the server group dialogue, as shown in Figure 8-6. If you select a subgroup, you can set the new server group as a subgroup group under the existing group. If the top group is selected, the new server group is a group of groups with the SQL Server group. Press to determine the new group.

After the SQL Server group is established, the registration server can register the unit or the remote server to become a group in the group. The following is the step of registration:

After selecting a server group in the pane of Enterprise Manager, press the right button (if the folder under Microsoft SQL Servers under the left pane is expanded, you can also press the group name directly in the left pane) Select a new SQL Server registration in the quick-enabled function table. Now you are welcome to use the registered SQL Server wizard screen. In the future, you will use Enterprise Manager to make a lot of routine management, and the wizard allows you to complete a lot of setup programs. Now follow the next step to continue the registration process. Enter the Select SQL Server screen, as shown in Figure 8-7. SQL Server available on the Internet will be listed in the list of available servers, select the available server in the list, or manually enter the server name in the text block, press the new button to register server. Of course, you can also press the removal button to remove the server that does not register. Enter your option and press step to continue the registration process.

Enter the selection verification mode screen. Choosing SQL Server security verification mode, the security of SQL Server will be discussed in Chapter 34. (If you choose to install when installation, SQL Server will be set to use the Windows NT authentication mode). Press the next step to continue the registration process.

Enter the SQL Server group screen, as shown in Figure 8-8. You can add your server to the existing group or add a new top SQL Server group. If you want to add a server to an existing group, select the first option and select a group from the drop-down list. Selecting the second option to enter a new group name in the Group Name text block. Press the next step to continue the registration process. Enter the completion of the registered SQL Server wizard screen. Registered servers are displayed in this screen. If there is a setting to modify, press the previous step to return to the previous screen to reset. After confirming that the setting is correct, you can complete the registration program.

Note If you forget the set password, you must reinstall SQL Server, so you must remember the password set now to avoid trouble.

Managing other services Enterprise Manage R can be used to manage SQL Server component services, such as SQL Server Agents, Dissatiscies, Coordinators, and Full-text Search Engines. Enterprise Manager is the only tool that can manage these service items, different from service control administrators or SQL Server service administrators, can only start or deactivate these services. SQL Server Agent Enterprise Manager provides a simple interface management SQL Server agent program. The contents of the SQL Server Agent Services are available in accordance with the following steps.
