This document describes how to install Windows 2000 Server to your Dell PowerEdge 2650 without using the Dell Open Management Assistant (DOSA) CD. This process takes approximately 45 to 60 minutes.

1. Identify system configuration of your Power EDGE server

Identify your disk array controller (disk array controller is optional, if you do not buy disk array controllers, you can save)

2. Preparation before installing the operating system

2.1 Please prepare the following items before installing the operating system

>> Randomly supplied DOSA disc or have made a good driver disk

>> Windows 2000 Installation CD

>> Blank 3.5 "Disk (used to make array card driver disk, if you have prepared driver disk this item can be omitted) >> A floppy disk drive and disc drive PC installed with Windows Or servers (used to make driver disks, if you have prepared driver disk this item can be omitted)

2.2 Making an array card controller Windows 2000 drive floppy disk

(Disk Array Controller is optional, if there is no purchase of disk array controllers, you can save)

Driven: A08W2K27.ZIP (for different versions of DOSA disk, file name may vary)

Get a way

1. Create a RAID card driver from the disc DOSA with the random belonging:

After downloading the driver, use Winzip or WinRAR to extract to the floppy disk, standby.

(The floppy is preferably new disk or pre-formatted, to ensure that the floppy disk is available)

Perc (Perc2 / Sc, PERC2 / DC, PERC3 / SC, PERC3 / DC, PERC4 / DI) The driver acquisition method of the array card is the same, but the name of the RAID card is to be selected.

2.3 If your server does not have an array card, the AIC-7899 SCSI controller can automatically identify in Win2000, ie, when installing the system, do not press F6 to specifically load the controller driver.

2.4 Set BIOS

1). Press the F2 button to enter the system BIOS while booting the self-test.

2). Cursor moving to boot sequence, knocking back into the boot device list

3). The cursor moves to CD_ROM Device, press "-" until the CD_ROM jumps to the first item, and guarantees that the left side has a "V" flag (this flag is selected)

4). Use the same method to list the Hard Drive C: The second boot device, and also "V" flags

5). Press ESC to exit the boot device selection interface

6). Press the ESC button and knock the Enter key to save exit

4. Start installation

Text Mode Setup Text Mode Installation

Once you create a RAID container, you can start installing the operating system.

1. Put the Windows 2000 installation CD into the CD-ROM drive and guided from the CD.

2. When the bottom of the screen: Press F6 if You NEED To Install A Third Party SCSI or RAID DRIVER (Figure 1) Press .

This action will stop the hardware automatic detection and allow you to specify a driver of third-party hardware (eg PERC).

3. Press , and then the installer will continue to load the module. this is normal. After a while, you will see the following information: setup could Not Determine The Type of One or More Mass Storage Devices Installed in Your System, or You Have Chosen to Manual Or Specify An Adaptor. (Figure 2)

4. Press to load the specified device driver.

5. Insert the RAID driver floppy disk and press , there will be one option in the device list to press to brighten the selection. (This option is determined by the specific array card or SCSI controller model) Press to brighten the selection.

6. After the copy is complete, the installer will return to the device list interface (Figure 4). Determine the PERC drive in the list and press to continue.

7. The installer search for other large capacity devices in the system, such as SCSI and IDE controllers (Figure 5). This step takes a few minutes.

8. Press to install Windows 2000.

9. If there is no partition information in the system, you will see the following screen (Figure 6), press the button to continue.

10. Read the license agreement and press to accept it.

11. Disk 0 contains unparalleled spaces, selects unparalleled space, and press to create a partition. (Figure 7)

12. Enter the size of the partition and press (Figure 8).

Note: The recommended partition is 4096 or more.

13. Select the C: New (unformated) partition and press .

14. Select the file format for the partition and press (Figure 10). Start format the partition.

15. After the format is complete, the installer starts copying the file to the system. (Figure 11)

16. If you have taken the PERC driver disk, you will be prompted to reinsert the disk. The system will be copied to the partition.

17. When the installer completes the copy of the file, the system will automatically restart (Figure 12) and automatically start the graphics installation section.

18. When installing recovery, the system will begin a comprehensive hardware detection (Figure 13) and load the driver of the device on the Dellpoweredge server. This process takes a few minutes. Note: If you receive a message saying that your PERC driver has no digital signature, click Yes accept.

19. The Regional Settings window appears. The default setting is US English. Select other settings, click Customize and select the appropriate settings (Figure 14). Otherwise, click Next to continue.

20. Registration Information When the screen appears, enter the corresponding information of the server (Figure 15). Click Next to continue.

21. Enter the product ID serial number (Figure 16). After the input is completed, click Next to continue.

22. Select the authorization method PERSERVER or PERSEAT (Figure17) for the server. For additional information on your license, please contact Microsoft. After selecting, click Next to continue.

Note: If you choose a PER Server license method, then before you continue, make sure you have entered the number of licenses you have.

With the PER Server and Per SEAT: All clients accessing the Win2000 server must have a CAL, Win2000 has two license modes: Per seat (per customer) and Per Server.

Per seat: Note that each client of the access server must have a CAL, then the client can connect to any number of servers. Usually this mode is applied to a network with multiple servers in a network.

Per Server: Refers to each of the servers, and also needs to have a CAL, indicating the maximum number of concurrent connections at each time server. Usually this mode is applied in a single server and the number of clients is relatively fixed.

Note: The license mode can be converted from each server to per client and cannot be converted from each client to per server mode.

23. Enter your computer name, which is unique in your network. You must include at least one letter.

24. Enter the administrator account password. Click Next to continue.

NOTE: Dell strongly recommends setting administrator passwords to prevent possible security issues.

25. Select the components you need to install (Figure 19), or you can add it after the system installation is complete. After selecting the corresponding setup, click Next to continue.

26. Set the time and date (Figure 20) and select the appropriate time zone. Click Next to continue.

27. You will start configuring your network. Typical settings contain most common network components (Figure 21). These components have TCP / IP configurations that use DHCP acquisition addresses, Microsoft Network Clients and Microsoft Networks and Print Sharing. If these meet your needs, click Typical Settings; if you need additional configuration, click Custom Settings.

28. If your system will be part of the domain, select Domain and enter domain name in the empty frame (Figure 22).

29. Click Next to continue.

30. The installer will copy files again to the system (Figure 23). This process takes a few minutes.

31. After the copy is complete, the system will run its last task (Figure 24). This also takes a few minutes.

32. Click the Finish restart system (Figure 25). Windows 2000 installation is complete. Figure 25

Finishing setup end system installation

After you log in to the system for the first time, you will see the Configure your Server window (Figure 26). Start configuring the server from here, select the server type you want to configure, and click Next, follow the screen prompt to complete the basic configuration of the server. You can also get some information about configuring advanced server options from here.

After the configuration is complete, you can block the screen when you start, empty the check boxes in front of the show this screen at Startup (Figure 27).

Note: To access the configure your server screen again, click the Start button, click Settings, click Administrative Tools, and then click Configure Your Server.

Drive installation under Windows GUI

After win2000 Server is installed, the server's graphics card, USB and other drivers have been successfully loaded.

NIC, SCSI backplane patches need to be loaded manually.

1. NIC: Dual Embedded Broadcom GigaBit NICS

Driven: bcom_lan_60_w2k_02.exe

Get a way:

1. Create a network card driver from the disc DOSA with the random belonging:

(1). Place the DOSA disk into the CD-ROM drive running Windows, automatically run, click Update Drivers / Utilities

(2). Select the server (PE2650), select the operating system (Win2000), click Continue

(3). Select NetWork Broadcom: NetXtreme Family of Adapters (DRIVER) 6.0 Click, save.

Drive file name: bcom_lan_60_w2k_02.exe (for different versions of DOSA disk, file name may vary)

2. Or directly from Dell Drive Website:

(1). Open http://support.ap.dell.com/cn/en/techfile/driverdownloadhelp.htm

(2) Select a Dell model, server, drop strip selection: PowerEdge 2650

(3) Select your operating system: Microsoft Windows 2000

(4) Select the operating system language: English

(5). Select the driver category: Network device drivers Network Drivers

(6). View the result

Choose Broadcom NetXtreme Family of Adapters

1. Select Broadcom NetXtreme Family of Adapters, v.6.0.a04

2. Click BCOM_LAN_60_W2K_02.exe, click on ASIA / PACIFIC to download the file.

After downloading the driver, use Winzip or WinRAR to extract to the floppy disk, standby.

(The floppy disk is best to be new disk or pre-formatted, to ensure that the floppy disk is available. NIC driver suggests the latest version of the Dell website)

NIC driver installation:

1. Differently extract BCOM_LAN_60_W2K_02.EXE with Winzip or WinRAR, then simply put the Driver folder Copy in the folder to the floppy disk, put it into the floppy drive,

2. Right-click My Computer, select "Properties",

3. Find "Hardware" and click "Device Manager",

4. Find "Unknown Device", select "NIC", right click "Properties", 5. Click "Driver", click "Update Driver",

6. Click "Next",

7. Click "Search for drivers for my device",

8. Select "Specify a location" and click "Next".

9. Locate A: / Driver, select the driver file,

10. Click "OK" to start loading the driver until it is completed.

2. SCSI Backplate: Dell: Backplane (Utility) A03

Driven: bp-a03.zip

Get a way:

1. Create a network card driver from the disc DOSA with the random belonging:

(1). Place the DOSA disk into the CD-ROM drive running Windows, automatically run, click Update Drivers / Utilities

(2). Select the server (PE2650), select the operating system (Win2000), click Continue

(3). Select SCSI Non-Raid Dell: Backplane (Utility) A03 Click to save.

Drive file name: bp-a03.zip (for different versions of DOSA disk, file name may vary)

2. Or directly from Dell Drive Website:

(1). Open http://support.ap.dell.com/cn/en/techfile/driverdownloadhelp.htm

(2) Select a Dell model, server, drop strip selection: PowerEdge 2650

(3) Select your operating system: Microsoft Windows 2000

(4) Select the operating system language: English

(5). Select the driver category: SCSI card drive SCSI Non-raid Controllers

(6). View the result

Dell: BackPlane

(1). Select Dell BackPlane A03

(2). Click BP-a03.zip to click ASIA / PACIFIC to download the file.

After downloading the driver, use Winzip or WinRAR to extract to the floppy disk, standby.

(The floppy is preferably new disk or pre-formatted, to ensure that the floppy disk is available)

Backplane drive installation:

1. Use the bp-a03.zip to extract out with Winzip or WinRAR, copy to the floppy disk, put it into the floppy drive,

2. Right-click My Computer, select "Properties",

3. Find "Hardware" and click "Device Manager",

4. Find "unknown device", select "SCSI-BP", right-click "Properties",

5. Click "Driver" and click "Update Driver",

6. Click "Next",

7. Click "Search for drivers for my device",

8. Select "Specify a location" and click "Next".

9. Find a: /, select the driver file,

10. Click "OK" to start loading the driver until it is completed.

The above drive is installed, and the system can be properly configured, used. The operating system is installed officially complete.
