SUMMARY This article describes how to set up the automatic login function of Windows 2000. Note that there is no such option in Windows 2000 Server or Advanced Server.
Preventing a prompt to enter a password in a non-domain system
In the Control Panel, double-click User and Password. Click Clear "To use this unit, the user must enter the username and password" check box. Note: This option does not appear on the system not domain member. Click the Advanced tab. Click Clear "Require User to press Ctrl-Alt-Del" check box before logging in. Automatic login is not supported when logging in to the domain. If you want to use the automatic login function, you need to join a workgroup.
This feature can also be opened by editing the registry in the Windows 2000 professional domain system.
WARNING: Execute this process will allow the user to automatically log in to the domain. This will lead to a serious security issue. Such a secure credentials of the system will be logged in to the system using anyone who initiates the registry after the registry.
Start regedt32.exe and find the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE / SOFTWARE / Microsoft / Windows NT / CURRENTVERSION / WINLOGON Type your domain name, account name, and password when you type when you usually log in. You must specify the following value: DefaultDomainName, DefaultUserName, and DefaultPassword. Note: The defaultdom banname and defaultUsername must already exist. DEFAULTPASSWORD can be unsuitable. On the Edit menu, click Add Value. In the Value Name box, type DefaultPassword. In the Data Type box, click REG_SZ. Click OK. Type your password in the String Editor box. Click OK and save your changes. Note: If you do not specify a defaultwordword string, Windows automatically changes the value of the AutoAdminLogon item from 1 (true). This disables the AutoAdminLogon function. On the Edit menu, click Add Value. Type AutoAdminLogon in the Value Name box. Click REG_SZ in the Data Type box. Enter 1 in the string box. save Changes. Exit Regedt32.exe. Turn off Windows and turn off your computer. Restart your computer and Windows 2000. Now you should be able to log in automatically.
