EL is newly added in the JSP 2.0 standard. It turned out that JSTL was generated in order to use, and now it is now added to the JSP2.0 specification. To understand it from the literal, Expression refers to the use of the page, not in the script segment (for example: <%%> or <% =%>). The benefits of use are convenient. When you want to output a variable in the page, you can use the variables directly to {param.name} or $ {param.com (the latter form can be used in []). But if I have such a need: see a request parameter, if it is empty, it is assigned an initial value, and it is used. Using EL is not satisfied.
