RFC867 DayTime protocol
(RFC867 Daytime Protocol)
This RFC specifies the standards on ARPA Internet Community. All hosts on the ARPA Internet should adopt and implement this standard.
A useful measurement and commissioning tool is a Daytime service. Its role is to return the current time and date, the format is a string format.
* TCP-based Daytime service
The DayTime service is based on TCP-based applications. The server is listening to the TCP port 13. Once the connection is established, the date and time of the ASCII form (any data received is ignored), close the connection after the transfer is completed.
* DAYTIME service based on UDP
Daytime service can also use UDP protocols, which also have 13, but UDP is to transmit current time with Data report. The received data is ignored.
* Daytime format
For Daytime, there is no specific format, it is recommended to use ASCII printed characters, spaces, and return lines. Daytime should be on one line.
Here are two popular formats:
A popular format is: Weekday, Month Day, Year Time-Zone
Example: Tuesday, February 22, 1982 17: 37: 43-PST
Another popular format is used in SMTP: DD MMM YY HH: MM: SS ZZZ
Example: 02 Feb 82 07:59:01 PST
Note: For machines, useful time adopts time protocol (Time Protocol RFC-868)
