LILO and GRUB difference

GRUB is better than LILO because Lilo relies on the absolute address of the hard drive to find the boot image and GRUB can understand the file system and find files that contain that boot image. At the time of installation, when the system gives the selection, we recommend using GRUB.

GRUB main configuration file is /boot/grub/Menu.lst (or grub.conf)

Here is some comments for those items found in this file. # 行首 有 # 号 is comment. TIMEOUT 5 # Unless you press a key, you will start importing the default operating system after 5 seconds. DEFAULT 0 # above settings the first item of the menu list to the default operating system. I can use "Default 3" to let the fourth item of the menu become the default operating system.

Title Linuxkernel (HD0, 2) / boot / vmlinuz root = / dev / hda3 MEM = 64M HDC = IDE-SCSI # defines the boot time menu item and set the boot action of the item. # The first line name this item is "Linux".

# The second line indicates the kernel located in the first physical hard disk (HD0), the third partition (2), the boot image is file / boot / vmlinux # and in the second line, the following options are transmitted to the kernel: # root = / dev / HDA3 (ie, there are three partitions on the first hard disk (HDA), the system boot files in the third area HDA3 # MEM = 64M (ie, forced using 64 megabytes of physical memory) # HDC = IDE-SCSI ( Use the SCSI emulator in my CD ROM because it is a CD recorder).

Use INFO GRUB to view the GRUB document.
