In this article you will learn how to convert your original Windows XP CD into the latest version of Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2).

What is the benefit of doing this?

When you reinstall Windows XP on the machine, your system will be upgraded to Service Pack 2 (SP2), saves "Windows Update" and reinstalling the trouble of service pack 2.

You can also put some of your own things such as

Microsoft PowerTOYS for Windows XP is added to this CD. I believe that you will install a lot of your own tools after you have installed a new Windows. Now you can put them in this CD.

Prepare this CD

Before we start, you need to prepare the following:

You use the language version

Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2)

Windows XP startup file (for guide to write to CD)

I am using the latest version used in this guide

Nero Burning ROM

At least 1.5GB of hard disk space (reserved for XP CD and SP2)

let's start

Go to (with a Windows XP) disc drive, then copy all files into a folder on your hard drive. This is easy. (The following shows) I use F: CD.

Then go to the root directory to determine the file WindowsXP-KB835935-sp2-enu.exe there (

Example), enter the following command:

F: WindowsXP-KB835935-SP2-ENU.EXE -S: F: CD

Please confirm the correct drive letter, depending on where you put your files.

In this example, I copied the full content of the Windows XP CD to F: CD, and the file of Windows XP Service Pack 2 is placed on F: on the disk. To ensure correctness, please check the location of the file again.

After clicking confirmation, you will see that the file is being integrated, just like the picture below:

You will see the following tips later: The integration process has ended.

The file of Service Pack 2 is now in your CD folder.

You may notice that this folder is no longer like the original CD, because the service pack file has been added in the root directory. You may now want to add some extra files, and I am adding Norton Anti-Virus 2003 and all Windows XP PowerToys to the "Support" folder. You can attach some of you to install small, critical software each time you have installed Windows, please note that these additional file volumes cannot be too large, which make it exceeded the size of the disc (should be held at 650 / 700MB, depending on The selected disc type). Checking this folder size is that right-click the CD folder and select Properties in the pop-up menu, you can see the size of the folder. If your file exceeds 650MB or 700MB, Nero will warn your file size.

The final preparation is to add WPA.dbl files to your CD. WPA.dbl is your computer or a hardware activation file. This file is unique to your machine, so you don't have to worry about it 's stolen or go anywhere, and it will only appear in a computer that has activated Windows XP.

The advantage of backed up this file to the CD is that you can activate Windows without contacting Microsoft through the network or phone. This means you can automatically activate Windows XP after reinstalling the system without worrying about calling Microsoft's representative.

As shown above, open "Search Windows XP" and select "All Files and Folders" -> "Search here" -> "C:" (or the Windows XP drive). Click "More Advanced Options", make sure the first three options are selected ("Search System Folder", "Search Hidden Files and Folders", "Search Subfolders"). Once you find this file, copy it to any place you like in the CD folder, so that you can find it after completing the CD production. In my CD directory, I put it in the "Support" folder.

Note: The correct way to use the wpa.dbl file in a newly installed system is to start the Windows XP SP2 to start to the security mode, copy the wpa.dbl file to the System32 folder (in this example is C: Windowssystem32), Finally restart the computer (to normal mode). You will be prompted to activate Windows XP, and you will find it if you still match the current computer, you can be activated if this file is still matched with the current computer. (This activation method is not supported by Microsoft. If you fail you, you must activate the general method of Windows XP).

Burn the file to the CD

Open the Nero Burning ROM and select CD-ROM (boot) just like the image below. Confirm that the content of your dialog appears to be the same as the picture. XpBoot.bin files can be placed elsewhere on your computer, replacing the f: in your computer.

Next, make the content and the following image under the tab (ISO):

The content under this tab (label) You can choose it. I chose WXPSP2_EN as a volume, but you can replace EN into your language. You can also name WXPSP2. There are some examples such as wxpvol_en (volume) WXPOEM_EN (OEM version) WXPRET_EN (retail version), and more.

Next, click the "New" button, you can use the Nero's file browser to add files to the CD. First, you will be able to drag these files in the Windows XP SP2 disc folder. Nero automatically calculates the size of the disc file and is ready to burn.

After everything is completed, click the "Burn" button and you will see the "Burn" dialog. Make sure that the "End CD" is selected, and finally click Burn.

If everything goes well, you will see:

Before you confirm the correctness of this CD, you may want to try to start your computer with it. You don't have to verify all steps, just make sure you can use this CD to boot your computer. If this is the case, you can use the Integrated CD of Windows XP Service Pack 2 to replace the original CD to install the system.
