Some Crystal Decisions products offer two Java viewers:

· (Intelligent) Java Viewer

· Java Plug-in Viewer

What is the difference between these two viewers?

When you choose "(Smart) Java Viewer, you are using the viewer Applet provided by the browser's built-in Java Virtual Machine (JVM).

· If your browser is Internet Explorer, you mourn the Microsoft JVM.

· If your browser is Netscape Communicator / Navigator 4, or earlier, you are using Netscape JVM.

· If your browser is Netscape 6 or 7, you are using Sun JVM.

· If you use a Mac computer, you are using Apple JVM.

When you select "Java Plug-in Viewer", you are using the viewer Applets carried by Sun JVM (independent of your browser or operating system)

Microsoft and Netscape JVM use Java 1.1, current Sun and Apple JVM use Java 1.4.

Java 1.4 has made considerable improvements to Java 1.1, and the Java Viewer can utilize additional features implemented by more advanced Java 1.4. If the Java Viewer finds yourself on Java 1.2 or higher, it can give users more control over report printing, and can print and display charts and maps in the form of a scalable metafiles. Not a low resolution bitmap (Bitmaps).
