Oracle8i installation on the Penitude / Windows machine
When installing Oracle8i on the Pentium4 / Windows machine, the installer does not run, the screen does not respond; sometimes JREW error is displayed. This is because Oracle8i's installer uses Java, while the Symantec Jit in the old JDK / JRE 1.1.x for Windows is not compatible with Intel Pentium4 systems and Windows ME systems (Solaris JDK / JRE 1.1.x for Intel is not affected).
If you just install Oracle8i client software on Windows 98, you can use the following method:
1. Built a temporary directory on the machine equipped with Intel Pentium4, such as / oratemp;
2. Copy the contents of the Oracle8i disc to the temporary directory / oratemp;
3. In / ORATEMP, search for file symcjit.dll, and two;
4. Rename the file symcjit.dll to symcjit.old;
5. From the directory / oratemp / install / win32, run Setup.exe and start installing.
If you want to complete Oracle8i completely, you can use the following method:
1. Built a temporary directory on the machine equipped with Intel Pentium4, such as / oratemp;
2. Copy the contents of the Oracle8i disc to the temporary directory / oratemp;
3. In / ORATEMP, search for file symcjit.dll, and two;
4. From the URL http://java.sun.com/products/jdk/1.1/download-jdk-windows.html Download JDK / JRE 1.1.8_008 for Windows, which supports Intel Pentium4 processor. In addition, the new version of Java 2 Platform Standard Edition (J2SE) also supports the Pentium4 system;
5. Double-click the downloaded JDK / JRE 1.1.8_008 file to decompress the installation. Find Symcjit.dll in it;
6. Replace the old Symcjit.dll in the temporary directory / oratemp in the new Symcjit.dll;
7. From the directory / oratemp / install / win32, run Setup.exe and start installing.
The latter method has a wide range of applications, which can be made into new discs for installing the Pentium4 machine.

There is also a method similar to the first. Open the file ORAPARAM.INI in / ORATEMP / INSTALL (the properties of the file are read-only), let the parameter jre_memory_options = -Nojit-ms16m -mx32m. Install again. Oracle8i installed with this method cannot run on some machines, so do not recommend.
