Sun Solaris PC NetLink, which allows Windows users to run the Sun Server and the Solaris environment directory, manage, and verify services. Up to 2000 users are supported simultaneously and add server functions for managing files and printing environments. Other new features also support Windows 2000 and improved backup tools. Solaris PC NetLink can unify several NT servers into a Sun server, providing flexibility, saving costs, simplifying management. Sun's PC NetLink software can simulate Sun's server into NT servers, including as the primary domain controller. PC NetLink 1.2 is a free software, bundled in all Sun Enterprise Server software, or can be downloaded from the SUN Download Center.

The downloaded source name is PCNL_1_2.tar.z, version is 1.2 (currently the latest version is 2.0), the file size is approximately 250m. First decompressed with the following command after downloading:

Uncompress -v pcnl_1_2.tar.z

After the above command is executed, PCNL_1_2.tar.z will be replaced by PCNL_1_2.tar. This TAR compression package is then unconnected, and it is sure that there is enough space to store these unfolded files; completely expand approximately a space 340m. Unstart the compression package with the following command

TAR XVF PCNL_1_2.tar

Run Install INSTALL (on the graphical interface), first appear options to install the interface; select "Quick Instal" or "Custom Installation". Quick installation will create a PDC in a new domain and install the following components:

l All PC NetLink server components

l PC NetLink Server Manager Management Tool

l All necessary supplements and Java components

l Windows NT Server Tools and other client tools

In the quick installation process, if you don't want to use the default name, you need to enter the server name, domain name, and administrator account name and their passwords. After the installation is complete, you can run Server Manager or NT Server Tools to change this configuration.

Custom installations can have greater selection control in the installation and configuration of the PC NetLink. You need to specify when you customize:

l The components that need to be installed - server, management tools, or all

l If you want to install server components, you need to specify that the server is acting as a PDC (Backup Domain Controller) or a member server.

l Information about server / domain names and passwords

l The configuration type of NetBIOS to use (Note: No NetBIOS, the installation will be terminated)

l Whether to install Windows NT Server Tools and Client Tools

Enter the name PDCName of domain name DomainName and the main domain controller during the installation process, and manage the administrator password of this domain. Then step by step by step according to the options of the prompt until the installation ends.

If you don't plan to keep existing configurations and data, run uninstall scripts:

/ OPT / LANMAN / SBIN / Uninstall

After the installation is over, the system will automatically share the following directory:

The Tools directory contains Windows NT Server Tools. Enter the directory Tools / Winnt.40 / i386, there are two executables in Srvmgr.exe and USRMGR.exe, which is the main tool for our management server, usrMgr.exe mainly manage users and user groups on the server, SRVMGR.EXE main Manage some shared information of the server (add a delete shared directory). To install the PC NetLink Server Manager, double-click the Setup program in the PCNLMGR_SETUP folder. The Setup program will install the correct version based on your language environment. After the installation is complete, first add the server to the PC NetLink Server Manager on the client. The specific operation process is to select "Add Solaris Server" in the operating menu. (If this is the first startup, "Add Solaris Server" dialog box will be automatically displayed. Enter the Solaris name of the PC NetLink system to add to the PC NetLink Server Manager (I write this IP address), enter the system's root password then confirm the button.

Next, you should associate the PC NetLink user account with the Solaris system user account. To create this association, you can use the PC NetLink Server Manager tool or mapuname command. After mapping the PC NetLink user account to the Solaris system user account, all files created by the PC NetLink server user accounts all the Solaris system user accounts, and can be accessed through the PC NetLink user account. Specific operation method:

l Use the PC NetLink Server Manager to log in to the PC NetLink system to change its user account mapping policy.

l Double click on the icon representing the server.

l Double-click Policy - Double-click "User Account Mapping"

l Establish or edit user account mapping policies. Select as shown below:

L point determined

This completes the settings for establishing an account mapping policy.

Finally, you can set the user and shared directory according to Windows NT Server Tools.

Known issues:

l PC NetLink software cannot copy more than 2GB files, please try to avoid using big files or use compressed files.

l When using Solaris PC NetLink to join the Windows 2000 domain, you must use the administrator's account and password.

l Administrators should try to avoid creating user accounts with an empty interface

l When the client runs the PC NetLink Server Manager management tool, the Chinese characters may not be displayed. This may have a relationship with the client's JRE (Java Runtime Environment).
