I am always amazed to us so far.
Microsoft's story begins in 1975. At that time, my friend Paul Allen and I saw an article describing the "PC" of MITS Altair 8800 in "Popular Electronics). Altair is very different from the large machine us used at that time. This is something that is ready to be assembled for computer enthusiasts - it is not fully assembled when mapping, just some discrete and a copy of the copy. After a few days (or few weeks) soldering, assembly can finally complete this size-like bread box, computer with several row switches and flicker indicators. It is largely ornamental, almost impossible to take any substantive work, of course, now we know that Altair has set off a revolution that changed the entire world. The core of Altair is a very cheap Intel 8080 microprocessor, which makes the large machine that has been in size with the people to be placed on a normal table. At the time, the computer is usually placed in a glass room equipped with air conditioners, and the surrounding rings are sitting in a well-trained technician. Therefore, this thing is also a surprised invention at the time. If you want to convert inventions into a breakthrough, Altair needs to make it software that works. This make Paul and I started to build my own software company. We know that the performance of the microprocessor will increase, the price will decrease, so the price of the computer will also decline. We envisaged the computer will walk into thousands of households, from entrepreneurs to students to home users. This will eventually lead to the rise of the software demand. We set up a company named Microsoft and added this change. Through a few years of development, PC has grown from the toys in the hands of the enthusiasts into an indispensable tool that constantly changes the world. It has a revolutionary impact on the way we handle information, communication, work, learning and entertainment. At the beginning, Paul and my small company established in my college dormitory is now the world's largest software company, with 40,000 employees in more than 50 countries. From the programming language and operating system, we invented everyone to imagine the software, from enterprise-class servers to the game. When we start, there is such a view: let Microsoft's products enter each family, computer on each table. This book introduces how we have turned this view (many people think that it is not worth mentioning) into a reality story. We interviewed hundreds of Microsoft employees in the past and the past, let them talk about the success and failure of the past 25 years, personal and professional challenges, and their embarrassment to the future. These can be written for 10 books to record our trails from a negligible entrepreneurial company as the rough experience experienced by the industry leaders, telling the risks we have undertaken, with fierce competition, and our new thinking. They interpret a good idea to become a complex process of good products, revealing how our new technologies improve scientific and changing the world. It is related to our original intention and values of our company. We rarely review the road, now maybe it is a good opportunity. We don't want to be happy with nostalgia, but in order to motivate yourself, "there is no difficulty in the world, as long as Kens Dance climb". In 25 years, we have completed many people who have considered impossible, we break the myth of some of the tasks about the personal computer. In our original ambition, we haven't thought of become such a huge, such a company, and have never thought of we can lead such an industry that can play a lightweight effect in the global economy. Review the achievements we have achieved in 25 years, I am convinced that we will have more things worthy of memories in 50 years. Every day we will find abundant and improve people's skills. We have just started.
