PXE (Preboot Execute Environment) is the latest technology developed by Intel, working in the client / server network mode, supports the workstation to download the image from the remote server via the network, and thus supports the startup process from the operating system from the network, which starts In the process, the terminal issues a request to the server through the PXE (BIOS stored in the BOOTROM or the motherboard), requiring the server to assign IP addresses, and then download with TFTP (Trivial File Transfer Protocol) or MTETP (Multicast Trivial File Transfer Protocol) protocol A startup package is in this machine memory and executes, and the terminal basic software setting is completed by this boot package, leading to the terminal operating system that is pre-installed in the server. PXE can boot a variety of operating systems such as Windows95 / 98/2000, Linux, etc.

The most direct performance of PXE is that the workstation in the network environment can save the hard drive, but it is not the concept of the usual diskless station, because using the technology's PC re-network mode running speed than the disk PC Meta. Of course, the PC using PXE is not a traditional TERMINAL terminal because the PC used PXE does not consume resources of the server's CPU, RAM, and the server's hardware requirements are extremely low.
