A portlet produces a taggele. Portal usually adds title, control buttons, and other modifications in the taggelement generated by the portlet. This new tag fragment is called a portlet window. Then Portal merges these portlet windows for a complete document, ie Portal page

Portlets executes within Portlet Container, and the portlet container receives the content generated by Portlets. Typically, Portlet Container submits these contents to Portal Server, and Portal Server creates Portal Page from these contents and pass it to the client. (Refer to Spec Figure 4-2)
PLT.4.3 Portal Page Request Sequence
Users access portal via a client device (eg browser), Portal determines which portlets needs to be executed based on the received request. Portal calls portlets via portlet, and then establishes Portal Page by the clip generated by portlets, and then return to the client to the user.
