Signaling System # 7 (SS7: Signaling System # 7) is a set of telecommunications protocols defined by ITU-T, primarily to provide local signaling for telephone companies. The SS7 is used in public channel signaling technology (CCS: Common-Channel Signaling), which is an OUT-OF-BAND signaling technology, providing a separate packet switched network for signaling services. SS7 in North America is generally referred to as C7. The basic function of SS7 / C7 is to provide call control, remote network management, and maintenance capabilities for the local telephone network. SS7 implements the above functions by converting control information between SIGNALING POINTS or SPS and SS7 signaling forwarding points (SIGNALING TRANSFER POINTS). Basically, the SS7 control network will inform the switch to build which path to the circuit switched network (Circuit-Switch Network). STPS Send SS7 Control Packet to Signal Network, where the switch may not be a signaling switch point (STP).
