Configuring INDEX Server Before performing search on a web server, you must first create at least one index and follow these steps to complete this work.
⒈ Start the index on the Windows 2000 Server server.
By default, the icon is selected in the computer management in the management tool group. The right side of the window provides index information about the current existing on the server. There are two indexes: System and web.
⒉ To create a new index, right-click the panel of the index service or on the right, select the new creation.
Display Add Cat Dialog box, specify the name of the index and select the location with the browsing button. The index service will not immediately start an index, and a message box will pop up, click OK to continue. In order to achieve the best performance, the index service can be placed on the hard disk that is separated from the web server.
⒊ Specify the directory of the index, use the right click to select the newly created compress name, and select the property from the pop-up menu, the dialog shown in Figure 2 will appear.
The first tab regularly displays the content you just entered, and select the web site you want to index in the WWW server drop-down list in the second tab track.
⒋ With a created catalog, you can now pick the directory you want to include in the index.
This powerful feature allows you to create a few indexes in different ways. For example, you may want to quickly browse the chapters taken from the full text, this feature allows you to perform this task within Index Server. To add a directory, use the right-click on the right panel to select the new directory. Select the directory and specify an alias in the dialog that appears. If you have to log in to the server to get the required content, you can provide the username and password to be used to get the required content. If you want to check the protected content, it is necessary to maintain the security of the content, this feature is very useful, so that only authorized users (perhaps those who pay for this) can get complete content.
You can also use this tool to exclude subdirectory that you don't want to index in the Web site. For example, retrieving the Scripts / CGI directory will not be used for the user. To this end, as long as you double-click this directory, it will be included in the index as yes, see Figure 3.
⒌ After all directories have been included / excluded by the site, use the right-click to select the startup from the pop-up menu, restart the INDEX Server service.
The server will start browsing the index that has been created and starts searching.
