In fact, the configuration Samba server is really simple, but if you want to completely control it, it is not an easy task! Click on the "Main Menu" => "System Settings" => "Server Settings" => "Samba Server" or "Samba Server" or the SAMBA Server (such as the xterm or gnome terminal). The first step in configuring the Samba server is to configure the basic settings of the server and several security options. After starting the application, select "Preference" => "Server Settings". On the "Basic" label, specify the working group should be in the computer and a short description of the computer. They correspond to Workgroup and Server String options in smb.conf. The "Safety Row" tag contains the following options: "Verification Mode" - it corresponds to the Security option. Select one of the following verification modes: "Domain" - Samba server depends on Windows NT main or backup domain controller to verify users. The server passes the username and password to the controller, and then waits them to be returned. Specify the NetBIOS name of the primary or backup domain controller in the "Verification Server" field. "Server" - Samba server attempts to verify them by passing the username and password combination to another Samba server. If it cannot be verified, the server will try to verify them using user authentication mode. Specify the NetBIOS name of another Samba server in the "Verification Server" field. "Sharing" - Samba users do not have to enter usernames and password combinations for each Samba server. They are prompted to enter the username and password when trying to connect to the specified share on the Samba server. "User" - (default) Samba users must provide a valid username and password for each Samba server. If you want the "Windows User Name" option to take effect, select this option. "Encrypted Password" - (The default is "YES") If the user is connected to Windows NT 4.0 with the service pack, or other recent version of Microsoft Windows, this option must be enabled. The password is transmitted using an encrypted format between servers and customers instead of intercepted plain text format. It corresponds to the Encrypted Passwords option. "Verify Server" - When "Verify Mode" selects "Server", specify the NetBIOS name of another Samba server in this field. "Guest account" - When a user or guest user is going to log in into a Samba server, they must be mapped to the valid user on the server. Select one of the existing usernames on the system as a guest Samba account. When the user logs into the Samba server using the guest account, they have the same privileges as this user. This option corresponds to the Guest Accent option. (I chose root) Next, it is managing Samba users, select "Preference" => "Samba User", then click "Add User" button. Select "UNIX User Name" in the existing user list on the local system in the "Creating a New Samba User" window. If the user has a different username on the Windows machine and logs into the Samba server from the Windows machine, specify the Windows User Name in the "Windows User Name" field. The "Authentication Mode" on the "Security" list of "Server Settings" preferences must be set to "User" to take effect. You also need to configure a "Samba Password" for Samba users and type it again to confirm this password. Even if you choose to use the encrypted password for Samba, you still recommend that you set the Samba password set for all users different from their Red Hat Linux system password. To edit an existing user, select it from the list, then click "Edit User".
