1. Close the application

2. Adjust parameters or use dedicated software
If the capacity of the hard disk or partition is relatively small, the time required for fragmentation work is not too long, but for some large hard drives and partitions of the filled data, it is necessary to have a long wait process. Therefore, when we organize these large-capacity hard drives or partitions, we can take the following two measures: first, you can turn off the optimized parameters in the finishing program included with the Windows 9x system, which can accelerate the speed of fragmentation, but this method The effect may not be obvious. Another method is to use a dedicated fragmentation tool to finish the hard disk or partition, such as the VOP99 software currently used by the author, and its speed is very fast. If we use the VOP99 to organize disk fragments every day, the disk will be optimized in a few minutes, and the system can keep the best. The author recommends that you use the Windows Plan Task Program to set the VOP99 at least once a week.
3. Modify the registry automatically turn off the screen protection
Before performing disk fragmentation, you must first turn off the screen saver, otherwise the disk defragmentation will start repeatedly, but if each time it passes through manual way, it may be more troublesome. Here, the author told everyone a tip that automatically shuts down the screen protection by modifying the registry. The specific steps are as follows: First, use the regedit command in the command line to open the registry, locate "HKEY_CURRENT_USER / SOFTWARE / Microsoft / Windows / CurrentVersion / Applets", then find if there is a "defrag" key value, if not To create a new one, the system has this key value by default. Create a primary key called "settings" under the "defrag" key value, then build a primary key called "DisableScreensaver" under this new primary key, and finally change its default string value to "Yes" can. When you run a disk fragmentation program, the system will automatically block the screen protection when you run the disk defragmentation process, and automatically restore it after running.
4. Change the location of the exchange file
We know that if a large amount of debris is present in the C drive, it may affect the start speed of the system. In order to speed up the speed of the system, we should try to reduce the fragment in the C drive. In the Windows 95/98 system, when the physical memory required by the application is insufficient, the system will generate a file named Win386.swp in the C: / Windows system directory of the hard disk, with this file. The hard disk space occupied as a virtual memory, even if any operation is not performed, as long as the computer is turned on, the file exists. Obviously, the virtual memory management program will read and write frequently, producing a large amount of fragments, which is the main reason for disk fragmentation. Since user habits are installed in the C: / Windows and C: / Program Files directory, a large amount of space has been installed separately in C: / Windows and C: / Program Files. To avoid temporary exchange files to generate a large amount of fragments in C-drive, we can specify the generating path of the temporary exchange file in other partitions. The specific steps are: Select "Control Panel" * "System", click the "Virtual Memory" button in the "Performance" tab of the dialog box, select "Users to specify the virtual memory setting" option, then from the Hard Disk option Select "D: /" (Note: The D disk can not be used in the space for less than 100MB), and finally click the "OK" button. When using the IE browser to surf, in order to spend a small amount of money, users often take offline browsing methods to access. After each internet access, the IE will leave a lot of temporary files in the C: / Windows / Temporary Internet Files directory. In order to avoid this, we can also specify the temporary directory to other partitions. 6. Keep a certain disk space
We will find that if the remaining space of the hard disk is too small, the speed of running the application will be slow, and the disk defragmentation is also difficult. Therefore, for the relatively small disk partition, it is best to maintain a free space of more than 15%; for a relatively large disk partition, it is best to maintain a free space of 5%; for the guidance partition, at least 40MB or more free space.
