EPG and QA are the two wheels that CMMI implementation.

We know that CMMI is a model. What is the model? The model is the abstraction of the real world, and the model is wrong. CMMI is also the same, it is just a description of the height of a system on system feature (best practices). During the extraction and combination of these features, it is necessary based on certain assumptions. Among them, a very important assumption is that the quality of the software products produced by a system is determined by the quality of the process it uses. "It is simple, it is" process quality determines product quality ". This assumption is not a head of the head, nor God says, but comes from a statistically of the quality world: about 85% of the quality problem is caused by process / system, not human factors.

We know this assumption and use statistics to prove this assumption, then how do we guarantee this assumption? That is, how to guarantee product quality through quality? This implies three premises: the first is that we have defined a process; the second is the process we define and has been complied with; the third is the defined process is correct and effective and has been continuously improved.

Only these three premises, we can say "producing good products through a good process." So, how does the CMMI model reflect these three premises? Mainly two important roles, EPG and QA. EPG is a group of organizational process definitions and improvements, which meets the first and third premise. The second premise? Established a QA role. QA reviews and audits the process of implementation and output to ensure consistent with the defined specifications and standards. So, we said that EPG and QA are the two wheels that CMMI implementation.

Since it is to drive, it is necessary to match two wheels. If a wheel is large, a small wheel is bound to affect the speed of advance. That is, we don't have a bias to EPG or QA: think that EPG is very important QA, or QA is very important EPG is not important. The resources and capabilities of EPG and QA must match, and any team in the two is in a weak, which will affect the implementation of CMMI. In another aspect, if the wheel is large, the stronger to deal with resistance, and a loop (PDCA / Ideal) can achieve a higher position (process capabilities). This requires us to organize strong EPG and QA teams during the implementation of CMMI.
