Network Data Management Protocol (NDMP) is an open protocol based on data management-based enterprise network range. NDMP defines a network-based and protocol-based mechanism to control backup recovery, and other data transfer between primary and secondary memory.
NDMP (5th Edition) structure based on client server model. Document backup management software is used as a client, that is, NDMP Data Management Application (DMA). In a NDMP session, there is only one DMA. The other processes in the data management session are one of the NDMP services.
NDMP services have three types: Data Service, Tape Service, and Translate Service. The network of the attachment data management application (DMA), data server, and tape servers is separated in the NDMP structure. NDMP also provides low-level control of tape devices and SCSI media changes.
