There is a service called Prefetcher in the Windows XP / 2003 operating system. This is a new system background data pre-read mechanism adopted by Microsoft. It can improve system performance, speed up the start speed of Windows XP / 2003, and read-read The program is all stored in the prefetcher directory under the folder where the system is located (Figure 1), the file name format is similar to the following: Foxmail.exe-2b721fde.pf (this is the Foxmail's pre-read file). Although Windows XP / 2003 uses pre-reading mechanisms, the default setting is compared, we can define the pre-read mode of the program and greatly improve the performance of the system.

Click "Run" in the "Start" menu, enter the regedit Enter in the Run dialog, open the Registry Editor, sequentially expand the following branch in the registry: hkey_local_machine / system / currentControlSet / Control / Session Manager / Memory Management / PrefetchParameters, in the right window, the key value of the DWORD value "EnablePrefetcher" can be changed (Figure 2). The key value of EnablePrefetCher can be selected from the values of 0, 1, 2, and 3, where the key value is "0" indicates the closing pre-reading function; the key value is "1" means that only the application is read-only; The value "2" means only reads only the startup item; and the key value is "3" indicates that the application and startup item are pre-read. Recommendation of the computer with mainstream configuration to "3", and for a comparative computer, it is recommended to use "1". For the old machines such as PII, it is recommended to set the keypreprefetcher key value to "0". Because the pre-reading mechanism has "innocerable" in such an old computer.

In addition, it is recommended that you can clear the Prefetcher directory once every 2 months. This is because frequent deletions, install various software, will leave a lot of prefetcher directories to leave a lot of pre-read files (software has been deleted, but the pre-reading file of the software is still retained), and the system When starting, the software, air consumption and time of the pre-read files, air consumption and time will be read. Please rest assured that after deleting the pre-read file, Windows will automatically help you read files again next time, your system will "take off" again!
