NetWare Link Service Protocol (NLSP) is a link status routing protocol in the Novell NetWare architecture. NLSP Based on the OSI Intermediate System to the Intermediate System (IS-IS) protocol, its design goal is to replace IPX RIP (routing information protocol) and SAP (service advertising protocol). The routing protocol initially developed by Novell is a small interconnect network.

Compared to RIP and SAP, NLSP has significantly improved in routing and has high efficiency and scalable characteristics. Its main features are as follows:

NLSP-based routers support reliable transfer protocol to ensure all transferred reliability. NLSP improves the routing process, which is mainly reflected in: NLSP-based routers store the entire network structure, not just next hop information. NLSP has high efficiency, especially in the WAN link. This is mainly reflected in: compressing the IPX protocol header through the NLSP, thereby reducing the size of the packet. In addition, NLSP supports multicast addressing, so that the route selection information is only sent to other NLSP routers, not like RIP, and on all devices.
