DQDB: Distributed Queue Dual Bus - Network Code

Distributed Queue Double Bus DQDB is the Data Link Layer Communication Protocol defined by the IEEE 802.6 Committee, mainly to the metropolitan area network MANS. DQDB is designed to be used for data, speech, and video transmission, which is based on cell switching Cell Switching technology (similar to ATM). In addition, DQDB is based on open standard Open Standard, compatible with carrier transmission standards, such as SMDS, and supports interconnection of multiplexed systems under two unidirectional logic bus.

In order to work more efficiently, the system is required: the range range is large, the error rate is low, suitable for multi-nodes, and has a variable bandwidth allocation capability. With DQDB, the network coverage can reach 30 miles, and the transmission rate ranges from 34 Mbps to 155 Mbps. The fluctuations of data transfer rate are attributed to many hosts sharing a dual bus and a single-master frame generator location, but now there is some solution to ensure reliable and fair DQDB functions of all hosts.
