Self-extracting file production full Raiders

Tip: Using compressed files we can put down as much information in a limited space, but it is inevitable that this will be encountered during use: a machine does not open these files because there is no corresponding software installed. True to delay, actually don't have to worry about it, just make a self-extracting file. No matter whether it has the corresponding software, it is not mistaken.

Produce self-extracting files under Windows XP

It is mentioned that many friends will immediately think of some famous compression software. In fact, if your operating system is Windows XP, you can't do so, because Windows XP has prepared a good self-restricted file making tool for us.

Open the Start menu and enter iExpress in the Run dialog box (Figure 1).

1. First, the tool prompts us to create a management file for this self-extracting file to save the relevant information of the self-extracting program. Select "CREATE New Self Extraction Directive File". If the relevant information file already exists, you should select the "Open EXISTING Extraction Directive" item and use the "Browse" button to find this file.

2. After clicking "Next", enter the compressed file type selection interface (Figure 2). There are three options in this: 1ExTract Files and Run An Installation Command; 2Extract Files Only (create a normal self-restricted file); 3CREATE COMPRESSED FILES ONLY (Create a CAB compressed file without self-extracting) ). We should choose the second item.

3. Click "Next" to enter the "package title" interface, where the program requires us to enter the text displayed on the title bar of all dialog windows when unzipped, you can enter.

4. If you use this tool to make an installer, then you can fill in the prompt information and authorization agreement in the next "Confirmation Prompt" and "License Agreement" interface. Since we are making self-extracting procedures, they don't have to be filled out.

5. In the Package File dialog box, click the "Add" button to add the file to be compressed to the list box. If you want to remove a file, click the "REMOVE" button. After setting it, click "Next" to enter the "Show Windows" interface to select the status of the program window when the package is decompressed. There are four options here, "default", "hidden", "minimized", and "maximized". Select the default.

6. Select the "Display Message" entry in the "Finished Message" interface, you can set an end message for your self-despread. Such as "files have been successfully decompressed", etc..

7. Go to the "Package Name and Options" interface to enter the address of the compressed package and the name (Figure 3). If you don't want to see the decompression progress bar during self-decompression, you can select the "Hidden File Extracting Progress Animation from User". If you want to create the package to support long file name, you can "Store Files Using Long File Name Inside Package" The item is selected. 8. Finally, the program will prompt us in the "Save Self Extraction Directive" interface to save the information you entered above so that the next time you create the same type of compressed package, you do not repeat the input. Select the "Save Self Extraction Directive File" item, the program saves the information file to the folder where the compressed package is saved by default. Click "Next", then wait a moment, a self-extracting file is created.

Making a split self-extracting file

Since the storage medium such as the floppy disk is limited, sometimes we need to separate the volume of files, for easy use, you can make it self-extracting files. At this time, WinRAR can be used. Methods as below.

1. Open WinRAR and select the file that is compressed in the main window. Then click the Add button on the toolbar to call the Compressed File Name and Parameters dialog. Enter the name of the compressed file and save the path (Figure 4).

2. Select the "Creating Self-Decompression Format Compressed File" check box under the Compression Options bar.

3. Select "best" under the "Compressed Method" column so that the compression efficiency will be relatively high. Then select the size of the volume under the "Split Compression Size, byte". If you use a floppy disk, then select "1,457,664 - 3.5" item. Of course, you can also manually enter the size of the volume according to the actual situation. The situation is set as shown in Figure 5.

4. After the compression is completed, the file name "file name .part1.exe", "file name .part2.rar" will appear in the specified folder. Store them in a floppy disk, respectively. After transferring to the destination, store these files in the same folder, and then perform a file that extension EXE, you can decompress the original file.
