Note: Please back up the data on your server, and configure the process of configuring the disk array will delete all the data on your hard disk! Dell / AMI / LSI will not be responsible for possible data that may be caused! First, why create a logical disk? When a hard disk is connected to an array card (RAID), the operating system will not see the physical hard disk, so you need to create a logical disk (also called container) equally set to RAID0, 1 and 5, so that the system Can recognize it correctly. Logic Drive, container or virtual disk (Virtual Drive) means that they are just different array cards. Second, the way to create a logical disk uses the array card itself configuration tool, the BIOS of the array card. (Generally used to reload the system or do not install the operating system, create a container (ADAPTEC array card). Use the configuration tool software provided by third parties to implement the array card management. Such as Dell Array Manager. (These software is used to have an operating system on the server) Three, correctly identify your array card model identifying your disk array controller (Disk Array Controller is optional, if no disk array controller If you can save this step) If you have an Adaptec Disk Array Controller (PERC 2, PERC2 / SI, PERC3 / SI, PERC3 / DI), you will see the following information: Dell PowerEdge Expandable Raid Controller 3 / Di, BIOS V2.7-X [Build XXXX] (C) 1998-2002 Adaptec, Inc. All Rights Reserved. <<< Press Ctrl a for Configuration Utility! >>> This array card configuration method Please refer to "Part 1 : Creating a RAID (container) "on the Adaptec Disk Array Controller If you have an AMI / LSI disk array controller (PERC2 / SC, PERC2 / DC, PERC3 / SC, PERC3 / DC, PERC4 / DI, PERC4 / DC) in the system post when you see the following information:. Dell PowerEdge Expandable RAID Controller BIOS X.XX Jun 26.2001 Copyright (C) AMERICAN MEGATRENDS INC Press CTRL M to Run Configuration Utility or Press CTRL H for WebBios or PowerEdge Expandable RAID Controller BIOS X.XX Feb 03,2003 Copyright (c) LSI Logic Corp. Press Ctrl M To Run Configuration Utility Or Press Ctrl H for Webbios This array card configuration method Reference "Part 2: Create on the AIM / LSI Disk Array Controller Logical Drive (Logical Disk) "

Part 1: Create a RAID (container) on the Adaptec Disk Array Controller --- Perc2, Perc2 / Si, Perc3 / Si, Perc3 / Di

Create a container step (here we focus on the configuration tool using the array card itself in configuring the PERC2 card with four channels, so you may have a slight difference with it because the channel is different from the route)

Note: Please back up the data on your server. Configure the process of configuring the disk array will delete all data on your hard disk! 1) First, when the system prompts during the self-test, press "Ctrl A "key:

2) Enter the Array Card Configuration Program, then select "Container Configuration Utility".

3) Go to "Container Configuration Utility", at this point, you will select the "Initialize Drivers" option to initialize the new or need to recreate the container. (Note: The initial hard drive will delete all the data on the current hard disk)

4) The window will appear in the channel of the RAID card and the hard disk connected to the channel, you can use the "INSERT" to select a hard disk that needs to be initialized. Please note the help tips below the window.

5) When you choose to complete and press the "Enter" button, the system key has a warning. If you confirm, select "Y".

6) After the hard disk is initialized, you can create a corresponding level (RAID1, RAID0, etc.) according to your needs. Here we take RAID5 as an example to explain how to create it. Select "Create Container" and enter the main menu.

7) Use the "INSERT" to select the hard disk that needs to be used to create a Container to the right. Press "ENTER".

8) Use the Enter to select the RAID level, enter the container's volume label and size in the lower window. Others remain the default. Then select "DONE".

9) This is the following prompts that the "Container" is not "redundancy" function before this "Container" is not successfully completed "Scrub".

10) At this point, you can select the corresponding container via the "Manage Containers" option, check the "status" of this "Container" for "Scrub". When it becomes "OK". This newly created Container has redundancy (if this container is supported. Scrub will be a process that requires a longer period of time. In the SCRUB process, you can exit the management interface, restart or install the operating system. In this time, Container is not in redundant states)

11) CONTAINERS is created. Use the "ESC" key to launch and restart your computer.

Part 2: Create a Logical Drive on the AIM / LSI Disk Array Controller - PERC2 / SC, PERC2 / DC, PERC3 / SC, PERC3 / DC, PERC3 / DCL --- PERC4 DI / DC (略Different, please read the following document carefully)

* Note: Please back up the data on your server, configure the process of configuring the disk array will delete all the data on your hard disk!

1) During the self-test process, when prompted to press the button, press and enter the RAID configuration interface.

2) If the server in Cluster mode, the following information will display "Continue to continue".

3) Select Configure and press Enter.

4) If you need to reconfigure a RAID, select New Configuration and press Enter.

If there is already a logical disk that can be used, select View / Add Configuration and press Enter.

In this article, we will choose "New Configuration" as an example (Note: Select New Configuration to delete configuration information on the original disk array) 5) Select Yes and press Enter.

6) Press the space bar to select the hard disk to create a logical disk, when the last hard disk in the logical disk is selected, press the Enter key.

7) If only one logical disk is created, go to step 8;

7-1) Press the space to select the hard disk in the second logical disk.

7-2) When the last hard disk in the logical disk is selected, press Enter.

7-3) When you need to configure more logical disks, repeat 7.1 and 7.2 steps until all logical disks are created.

8) Press F10 to perform the configuration of the logical disk.

When your array card is PERC4 DI / DC, the following information will be displayed, otherwise, please contact 1.

9) Press the space bar to select an array.

Span information, such as SPAN-1 (cross-1), appears in the array box. You can create multiple arrays and choose to bridge it.

10) Press the F10 to configure the logical disk.

11) Select the appropriate RAID type, and the rest is accepted by default.

Note: DELL recommends assigning all array space to a logical disk.

Select Accept and press Enter.

12) Repeat each logical disk, select Accept, and press Enter.

13) Press the ESC key to return, select Yes, and press Enter.

14) Continue with any key operation.

15) The Logical DRIVER (the logical disk that is just created needs to be used)

Press the ESC to return to the main menu, select Initialize, and press Enter.

16) Select the logical disk that needs to be initialized, and accept it by space button.

17) Select Yes and press Enter.

18) Press any key to continue and restart the system, and the RAID configuration is complete.
