Discover is a set of tool libraries for collecting and reporting system hardware information. It uses system-specific modules to detect current system hardware, and provide an interface-independent interface for XML data.

You can use it directly by calling Discover's C libraries or it comes with it. There may be other program interfaces in the future, such as Perl or Python.

Discover's XML data format is very open. When a hardware is found, you can redefine any of the data structures you can imagine - from Linux core to XFree86 service drivers. Discover also knows how to get XML data resources, including local file systems and networks. For example, this feature allows the operating system installation to solve a bunch of antique level hardware, then get the latest hardware database from the Internet.
