This chapter is to help readers have mastered how to install Oracle 9i and how to configure Oracle 9i network environments. This book uses Windows 2000 Server as a installed network operating system platform, the database server uses Oracle 9i Database for Windows 2000 Enterprise Edition. 2.1.1 Installing Hardware Environmental Demand The following describes the requirements of Oracle 9i on the hardware environment from 5 main aspects. 1. The minimum configured CPU is the lowest to Pentium 166. 2. The memory has a minimum memory capacity of 64MB, preferably 256MB or more. 3. Requirements for hard drives It is recommended to configure the hard drive above 8GB capacity. 4. Requirements for the CD-ROM drive recommendation to select a fast-driven drive, 16 times or more. 5. Requirements for NICs can generally use 10 / 100MB adaptive network card. 2.1.2 Installation of Software Environment Demand The following describes the requirements of Oracle 9i on the software environment from two main aspects. 1. Requirements to the operating system recommendation to install the database server on a newly installed Windows 2000 Server, install the management client on Windows 2000 Server or Windows 98. 2.
