Everyone also knows if you can use proxy servers or gateway methods for non-route ADSL MODEMs. But if there is no route ADSL MODEM, is it possible to adopt a proxy server or gateway mode? Do not! There is also a solution: non-routing ADSL MODEM broadband router. The broadband router is also a shared Internet device. It is similar to the same router, which also has "routing" functionality, which can replace the location of the proxy server and become a "gateway" of the client. The client will be online through this "gateway". Moreover, there are 4 ports or 5-port switches on most broadband routers, and the client can be connected to the network as long as the client interrogates the network cable in the switched port of the broadband router. Its networking method is shown in Figure 1.
Figure 1 Broadband router supports sharing of multiple Internet access methods, such as ADSL, FTTB LAN (fiber to floor local area network to house), closed route broadband (ie Cable Modem), normal 56kbps modem dial-up network, etc. However, for the ADSL access method, it only supports Ethernet ADSL Modem. Below, we are still based on the Windows 2000 platform, with ASUS (ASUS) AAM6000EV non-routing Ethernet ADSL Modem and TP-LINK (Parier) TL-R400 broadband router as an example, to explain how to share ADSL in broadband routers (other The brand's broadband router will vary on the interface, but the places and specific settings that need to be set are almost the same. First, make sure the ADSL MODEM is working properly, that is, we have been able to access it online. Then we cut off the power of the computer and the ADSL MODEM and connect the TL-R400 broadband router.

It integrates a 4-port 10 / 100MBPS switch that is used to connect the user computer that needs to be internet. The WAN port on the back panel is used to connect network access devices such as ADSL MODEM. First, we connect the Direct Tarnate twisted pair with AAM6000EV to the MODEM's RJ-45 port and TL-R400's WAN port (the original straight twisted pair is used to connect MODEM and computer), then, Then use the straight-through twisted pair to connect the computer's RJ-45 port and TL-R400 switch (LAN port). After connecting, turn on the power of Modem and TL-R400 to turn on your computer. First, the configuration of the broadband router now, we have to make a simple configuration on the TL-R400 broadband router, allowing it to automatically dial in place of your computer.

We can enter "http://xxx.xx.xxx.xxx" in the IE browser address bar to enter the management page to set it. The default IP address is "192.168.123.254" and the subnet mask is "255.255.255.0" in the TL-R400. We have to pay attention to "http://192.123.254" is now in the computer IE browser address bar, which is unable to access the management page. It is very simple: IP addresses can be accessed in the same network segment. So we must first modify the IP address of the computer local connection. Figure 4 At the system desktop, right click on the "Online Neighbor" icon, select the Properties item, pop-up "Network and Dial-up" dialog box in the shortcut menu that pops up. In this dialog box, "Local Connect", right click, select the Properties item in the pop-up menu, go to the Local Connection Properties dialog. In this dialog, select the Internet Protocol (TCP / IP) "item, click the" Properties "button to enter the TCP / IP Properties dialog. In this dialog, the IP address is set to "192.168.123.x" (x is 1 to 253 natural numbers) (eg, "192.168.123.200" in this example), and the gateway is set to "192.168.123.254". (image 3). After two consecutive times, the settings take effect immediately. Now, we can enter "http://192.168.123.254" in the IE address bar to enter the management page of TL-R400.

In this dialog, the default IP address of the TL-R400 and the type of WAN (wide area network) are displayed, and the default is "Dynamic IP Address" (Dynamic IP Address). Click the "Change" button to enter the dialog box shown in Figure 5. In this dialog, we need to select "PPP over ethernet" to change the WAN type to "Point-to-point protocol on the LAN), this Is the ADSL dialing use this protocol. After you click, click the "Save" button to go to the next dialog. Here, we need to set the ADSL account and password (ie, ISP is provided to your ADSL username and password), after the dialing task is handed over to TL-R400. After completing, we need to save the settings. But and slow! ! We carefully think about the process of transferring online data to the user computer, which is from Internet → ADSL Modem → Broadband router → native, and before we have seen the IP address segment of the local connection and the IP connected to the IP address segment of the local connection The address segment is unified, then the default private IP address of the ADSL MODEM - ASUS AAM6000EV Ethernet ADSL Modem is "192.168.1.1" (most Ethernet ADSL Modem factory default IP address is "192.168.1.1" ), The subnet mask is "255.255.255.0". Obviously, and "192.168.254.x" is not in a network segment, that is, the TL-R400 is unable to access the ADSL MODEM, and the data cannot be transmitted. Import and data transmission can only be achieved when the ADSL MODEM, a broadband router is unified when connecting the IP address segment of the three. Therefore, we also need to modify the TL-R400 IP address, we recommend modifying the IP address into the same network segment with the ADSL Modem, such as "192.168.1.2", subnet mask "255.255.255.0" (Figure 6). Finally click the "Save" button to save the settings, and click "Reboot" to immediately restart the TL-R400 wideband router to make the settings take effect. Figure 6 2, the client's configuration When the TL-R400 is restarted, a dialog box that displays "System Is Restarted Please Reconnect Manually" is restarted, manually connects to the manual, lets we reconnect the management page. At this time, you will not access "http://192.168.123.254" in the IE address bar, because the TL-R400's IP address segment has been modified, and the IP address of the existing local connection is not On a paragraph. So now we need to reconfigure the client.
Figure 7 enters the dialog shown in Figure 4, here, modify the IP address to "192.168.1.x" (x is 3 ~ 255 natural number) ("192.168.1.3 in this example), the subnet mask is still It is "255.255.255.0". Since TL-R400 now replaces the previous proxy server, it plays a "gateway" role, so we set the "gateway" to the TL-R400 IP address "192.168.1.2". The "gateway" sharing is used, then the client's DNS server should also point to "Gateway", "192.168.1.2" (Figure 7) (on this, we have mentioned when using the Sygate sharing network). Third, the broadband router dial-up Internet now, the private IP address of the ADSL MODEM, the local connection is in the same network segment, and the data is transmitted. Enter "http://192.168.1.2 in the IE address bar" http://192.168.1.2 ", Then enter the management password into the TL-R400 management page, click the" Connect "button in the lower right corner to make a dial-up connection. Wait for about 5 seconds, the connection is successful, while the TL-R400 will display the public IP address obtained, ISP DNS Information such as server address (Figure 8). Figure 8 Now the client can go online. Open IE, enter the URL - GO !! When you want to go online, just open the ADSL MODEM and TL-R400, TL-R400 will Automatic dialing and connects to the Internet. When the computer is logged in, you can go directly, there is no additional operation. If you don't want to go online, turn off the TL-R400 power supply .TL-R400 supports 4 computers sharing Internet, if More than 4 computers, you can add a hub (or switch), and the networking method is as shown in Figure 9.

Indeed, if the route is not very important for a single-machine network, it doesn't seem to be important, but for users who need sharing, the route or not, there is a relatively intuitive difference. Finally, we summarize the pros and cons of routing mode, you can decide whether to use routing methods according to your actual situation. Advantages 1. Convenient networking, and do not require a single computer as a proxy server, reduce loss and save electricity bills ^ __ ^. 2. After setting up, the computer is on the Internet, and it is easy to save on the installation dial-up software. 3. All computers are not exposed to the public network, relatively safe. If the firewall function of the broadband router is turned on, the Internet security will be further protected! Disadvantages 1. All computers have no public IP addresses, which are exposed to route ADSL Modem or broadband routers. Some applications that require public IP addresses (such as point-to-point information sharing, such as P2P; various servers, such as streaming servers, mail servers, etc.) require port mapping. Although most ADSL MODEMs and broadband routers support port mapping, they still need to be set separately, it is not so convenient. 2. The number of shared shared computers is limited, and the sharing of a separate proxy server / gateway computer is not comparable. Generally, the route ADSL MODEM can stably support 5 to 12 units, and can stably support the wideband router shared by 60 computers (without switches, but also need to purchase a switch or hub), it takes more than 2,000 yuan, and the price is not cheap.
