Translator Note: This article is a "real reason you should pay attention to the real reasons" of Web Standards. The author writes an illicit article. Rear. It can be seen that the atmosphere discussed by foreign technology BLOG is also very good, and at least a lot of people involved. Interested suggestions to see the original text.

With regard to the web standard, I have learned a lot and is being used. I am also very clear to realize that using the web standard is not to be proud of saying "Hey, is your site pass the standard verification?", But for more than the other. But as the "elite" of the web designer, sometimes I feel doubtful, just use it and tell others that the Web standard is not all, the question is: We are doing this now, then next year or the year, the situation is still now Look? Still is a small part of the designer adopted a web standard, and most of the designers continue to design the IE design site? Where will we go to?
This problem is after I read the "Reasonable Reason for Web Standard" article written by Design By Fireandrei. Also because Keith's post on the web standard article. How should we make more practical doctors? The first step I think (may be a bad idea) is a Web professional master, such as Eric Meyer, Douglas Bowman, etc., comprehensively redesigned and plan for W3C's calibration site and guide manual. Andrei's "Design Eye for THE USABILITY Guy" proposes a package of packed knowledge and effects is an excellent example. It is simple and clearly pointed out that W3C sites are defects in many ways, such as ugly interfaces. Andrei also mentioned that a fundraising foundation to promote this, I personally think this is a very good idea and starting point.
Transform W3C
W3C can be said to be the core of all things about the Web standard. I said that all things, W3C is like a car repair shop, you "driving" your site opens in and gets all maintenance. And the actual situation is that if you start to learn the Web standard, W3C's verification warning may be difficult to understand. In fact, W3C should include all CSS tutorials, you should be able to get answers simply, not what should I do if I should do it now. You may need to find an answer to a site, others find the answer at other sites, and the no authority answers are all over the entire Web and constantly arguing. If all problems can be solved in W3C, it will be a pleasant thing. When the problem occurs, your first thinking should be accessing W3C. OK, I know this idea is not easy to implement, but W3C should at least use it and can stimulate people to learn Web standards. I am willing to dedicate such a job.
The transformation of W3C is still unable to change only a small number of people using standard status, but at least one start. The real reason for Web standards is the real reason for Microsoft, and it doesn't care about it and mistakes because they have the ability to do (not do). Just like their security vulnerabilities, almost every day, even if the user spends a lot of costs, it cannot be changed. Microsoft is willing to spend some resources of L Onnghorn continue to support XP Service Pack 2 is just because too many problems are exposed by the media, forced to do it.
EU
The case of the EU penalty Microsoft Windows Media Player is a joke! Every time, when I need to put a movie on the web, I use QuickTime technology. It is a very good software. You can get a shorter, good quality, good quality, and you can get better script processing capabilities. But every time I am almost madly carry out "fight" and debate, the customer's argument is that most websites use Windows Media Player, why not use Windows Media Player? Every time you do ... isn't it worried? The European Union can punish Microsoft according to their will, but this does not change Microsoft's thoughts and action. We live in a democratic society, but it doesn't mean that the software world is also democratic. Instead, the software world is full of monopoly. The same thing happens on the IE browser. Maybe we have a responsibility to tell the EU and the US government, we live a day in what kind of environment every day, but I am almost sure that there is no one to do, but I have no Web experts since there (EU and the US government) (at least my knowledge not enough). Why don't enhance the manufacturer of Web design software to develop applications to support Web standards, forcing us to use this strict approach to use Web standards? Does this do this, may it be successful? This method will not even lead to people's responsibility. I believe that only gives Microsoft's stress, we can reach some goals. No stress, everything will continue, everything will not change, Microsoft may continue a big battle. Take a look at Robert Scoble.
A blacklist?
What is the design of a blacklist website? Leave all IE and unwilling to use the Web standard site to blacklist. All web standard BLOG sites are established to point to the blacklist site (link "Get Firefox" icon or ZELDMAN icon below the link). If you are exposed to a lot, I believe that most companies want to delete from the blacklist. I know that this is more fierce, but most of the business sites can understand, maybe they have never heard of the Web standard, this is a fact. Such "fierce" may be necessary, perhaps indirectly affecting Microsoft.
A quality label / certificate
Another idea is to give those commercial sites that use web standards, or quality labels, just like ISO certificates. In this way, we can not only give us a guarantee: the site is based on Web standards, and customers will benefit. After all, a product has a quality label recognized by the world will increase the selling point. If this can add "reputation and fame" or exposure, I believe that customers are willing to consider accepting this approach. If you have a large number of companies to choose this method, Microsoft will feel pressure and consider what to do for the web standard.
The above is all my personal arranging, I don't know how to implement, and I don't know if it can be realized. But at least I care about some things. Perhaps these ideas can then be seen and accepted by many people (including Web standard leaders) and then start actions. There are also some funds to help start, and things need to take a lot of effort and money.

Comment Abstract
Lukasz: Why do you have to do this for IE? What must you do? In the face of fact: Windows is the most common operating system in the world, IE is the most universal browser, IE's share has reached more than 95%. Why do anyone care about Margin (Firefox, Mozilla et al, no matter which one)? As a user, I care about whether the company follows which standard. I suggest you consider: Microsoft browser does not support standards, why is it so popular?
Lars: People have used IE for a long time, the company establishes the IE to browse the site without concern W3C WEB standards because of additional cost, because there is no consistent editing tool that is obtained. Establishing a blacklist is also almost impossible, there are too many sites for IE design. As for Lukasz, IE has more than 95%, I don't agree, reading Zeldman's "Designin G With Web Standards" book knows that many other browsers are disguised themselves IE to be able to display only sites designed for IE. ByteWarrior: There is already a blacklist, see here Promozilla.nl (in the Netherlands). There are more than 300 websites on the blacklist, 50 of which have changed to support Mozilla / Firefox.
Tinotino: Microsoft is very smart but not wise, we are small ax to big trees. We need standards, just if the inch is not standard, we will use our feet to measure. I hate to debug the site bug on each available browser, which is idiot practice and inefficiency.
Rob Van Der Linde: If you need it, I can help write Pho / MySQL to support the establishment of a global blacklist list (using my spare time). But I can't provide server space and domain name, maybe we can seek a group of PHP programmers, or build such a project in SourceForge.
David: I am a designer, I don't know anything about the program. After reading all the posts, I don't think people don't want to use standards, just those who have skilled design techniques, they don't want to give up design and write code.
Veerle (author): To David, I can understand that the designer change is not particularly obvious. I am a graphic designer, belonging to that category that is not afraid of research code. If the write code will make you fear, the hair is erected, then it is not what it means. I want to see the editing software (similar to Dreamweaver) to help you. As a good web designer, even if you only care about the interface and look, I believe that some basic knowledge is, such as how the code must be known. My daily work is the design interface (UI) and submit (x) HTML template to programmer, my focus is UI, I still hope that the page code can be simple and standard to replace the multi-layer nested form. When I started to learn the webpage in 1996, I was all handwritten code. This became my biggest advantage. As a designer, if you know how to design XHTML / CSS skills, this will be your capital.
