X.25 is a data packet switched network protocol proposed by ITU-T for WAN WAN communication, which defines data terminal device DTE and data circuit terminal device DCE data and control information exchange.

Regardless of the system type of the connection network, X.25 has efficient performance. X.25 is typically a packet switching network for general telecommunications services, such as telephone industries. Control and management by the network adopted by the subscriber. X.25 is a connection-oriented service to ensure sequential transmission of packets.

When a DTE device issues a communication session connection request to another DTE, it is necessary to establish an X.25 session service. The receiving the requesting DTE device can agree to also reject the connection. If you agree to the request, then the two systems start full-duplex communication; any DTE device can terminate the connection behavior. Once the session is terminated, it is necessary to further send a request for establishing a new session. X.25 uses virtual circuit packet communication methods, including swap virtual circuits and permanent virtual circuits.
