As Internet and intranet applications are increasing, video on demand is also gradually applied to broadband networks and local area networks. People are no longer satisfied with the browsing text and pictures, more and more people prefer to watch movies on the Internet, listen to music. The implementation of video on demand and audio point broadcast function must rely on streaming service technology. As far as it is, the most popular stream on demand server has only two, namely Windows Media service and REAL Server. Below we are here to discuss how to build a video on demand server in a Windows 2003 Server environment. We know that Windows Media services use streaming media to transfer data. Usually the file in the format must be fully downloaded to the local hard drive to open and run. Since multimedia files are usually relatively large, completely downloaded to local often take longer waiting. The streaming media format file only needs to download some in the local, then you can play it while downloading. Windows Media services support video files in ASF and WMV formats, as well as audio files in WMA and MP3 format.

First, the installation of Windows Media service

WINDOWS Media Services is one of the components of the Windows Server 2003 system, but is not automatically installed by default, but users need to manually add. In the Windows Server 2003 operating system, in addition to the "Windows Component Wizard" installed Windows Media service, you can also be implemented by "Configuring your Server Wizard".

(1) When you just install the Windows Server 2003 operating system and enter Windows, the system automatically runs the Manage Your Server window. Click the "Add or Remove Role" hyperlink, display "Configure your Server Wizard" dialog.

(2) Click the "Next" button in the dialog, the computer will automatically detect all devices, operating systems, and detect all network settings. After the test is complete, the Configuration Options dialog box is displayed, select the Custom Configuration option to customize the network service you need to install yourself.

(3) Click the "Next" button, the Server Role dialog box is displayed, and all the servers that can be installed are listed in the Server Role list box. Most of the services in the system can be selected in this dialog.

(4) Select the "Flow Media Server" option in the list box, and then click the "Next" button, the Select Summary dialog is displayed to view and confirm the selected option.

(5) Click the "Next" button to display the "Configure Component" dialog box and put the Windows Server 2003 installation disc in the optical drive as prompted.

(6) Place the installation CD After clicking the "OK" button, the system starts copying the file from the disc and installs the Windows Media service, and uses the progressbook to represent the current installation progress.

(7) After the installation is complete, the dialog will be displayed, which means that this server has been successfully set to a streaming media server.

(8) Click the "Complete" button to turn off the wizard, return to the Manage Your Server window, and the flow media server has been successfully installed.

In addition, Windows Media services can also be installed in the Control Panel, using traditional "Add / Remove Programs" to add installations. In the Windows Component Wizard dialog box, select the Windows Media Services check box and you can successfully install it according to the system prompts into the Windows installation CD.

After the Windows Media service is installed, the Manage Your Server window will be returned. Click "Manage this Flow Media Server" on the right of "Flow Media Server" to the right, or click Start "-> Control Panel ->" Administrative Tool "-> Windows Media Services option, The Windows Media Services window will appear. All management work on Windows Media services can be done in this window.

Some basic knowledge about streaming media is introduced in this window to understand it as entry. In the Getting Started tab, click on an option in the left basics, you can display the explanation of the item on the right. Second, make streaming documents

Web services can be used to publish HTML files, while video on-demand services are naturally available to issue streaming files. Using the Windows Media encoder, file extensions can be extended as .wma, .wmv, .asf, .avi, .wav, .mpg, .mp3, .bmp, and .jpg to convert stream files used by Windows Media services. .asf, .wma and .wmv file extension representative of the standard Windows Media file format. Where .asf file extensions are often used to use Microsoft Media-based content using Windows Media Tools 4.0. And .WMA and .WMV file extensions are introduced as a standard naming agreement as a Windows Media encoder. The purpose is to make users easily distinguish pure audio (.WMA) file and video (.wmv) file, these three extensions can be Exchange. 1, install Windows Media Encoder

Windows Server 2003 does not bring your Windows Media encoder, you need to download the Simplified Chinese version of the Windows Media Encoder on the Microsoft official website, and then perform the installation process. It should be noted that the encoder can be installed on the Windows Media server and can also be installed on other computers. That is, the encoder only needs to be installed on a computer operating in the encoding (ie, the conversion file format).

(1) Double-click the Windows Media Encoder installation file that runs the download, will display the Installation Wizard dialog, which shows the components that can be installed in this installation wizard.
