On the floppy disk, the LAN refers to the use of floppy disk to start the computer in the DOS state, and then connect the computer in the DOS environment to share the resources on the WINDOWS 9X / NT / 2000 / XP and other machines on the local area. This provides great convenience for installing operating systems or implementing "network clone", etc. Below I will combine our own practical experience, making the network boot disk, and the use of the network boot disk is described in detail.
First, create a network boot disk
In Windows NT Server 4.0, there is a "Making Network Installation Boot Disk" option to facilitate the convenience of the DOS workstation into the NT server. Only, we use this function of the label to "quote", and use it to connect to the Windows 9x / 2000 machines. Therefore, making a network boot disk can only be made in Windows NT Server, while Windows 2000 or Windows XP is powerful, in this regard. The specific method is:
1. Do a DOS boot disk. According to the description in Windows NT Server 4.0, this disk should be a DOS6.22 boot disk. But the scriptures are found to start the floppy disk with the Windows 98 (without the drive driver driver). It is recommended that it is best to start the floppy disk in Windows 98 to identify hard disk partitions in the FAT32 format.
2. In the Windows NT server, click "Start → Programs → Administrative Tools → Network Customer Manager".
3. Select "Make Network Installation Boot Disk" and click "Continue" command button.
4. After Figure 1 window, select "Use Existing Path", fill in the path where the cliens directory is located in the text box and click OK. This directory is located in the NT Server disc, and my computer disc is e, so I fill in E: / Cliens (Note: Previously to set the cliens directory in the disc, the shared name is also cliens).

5. After the window appears, select "Novell / Anthem Ne2000" in the drop-down list box below "Network Adapter Card" (Note: If the DOS workstation is used by the NE2000 compatible network card, it is recommended to set the NIC settings. In order to switch the jumper, set IO to 300, IRQ is set to 3; if the network card is other type of non-NE2000 compatible network card, "Novell / Anthem Ne2000" is also selected, and then modified backwards).

6. After the window shown in Figure 3, insert the DOS boot disk in step 1 into the software's floppy drive, write the computer name of the DOS workstation after "computer name", can be written, as long as it is not in the local area network Some computers are renamed; select the appropriate protocol in the drop-down list box below the Network Protocol, which is available for IPX, TCP / IP, NetBeui and more. It is necessary to note that if you select a TCP / IP protocol, you either exist of a DHCP server in the LAN or you specify the IP address and subnet mask for the DOS workstation. Therefore, there is no special request, the TCP / IP protocol is generally not selected; when the IPX or NetBeui protocol is selected, the "server" to be accessed is also installed has a corresponding protocol. For example, if you want to use the created network boot disk into a Windows 98 machine in a local area network, IPX or NetBeui protocols must also be installed in this Windows 98 machine.

7. Thereafter, click "OK" until it completes and exits.
8. Modify the autoexec.bat file in the floppy disk, delete the last three statements, namely "NET USE Z: / FWNT / Clients", "Back" Run Settings ... "," z: /msclient/netsetup/setup.exe / $ ".
