ICS (Internet Connection) is a network connection sharing service built in Windows 2000 that allows home networks or small office network users to connect to the Internet. To use ICS, there are a few things to note: (1) The computer that enables ICS must have two network interfaces: a connection to the internal local area network, usually a network card; a connection to the Internet, usually a Modem or ISDN interface. (2) To configure ICS, you must have an Administrators group permissions. (3) After the ICS setting is complete, the local network will use a dynamic address allocation mechanism, so this feature should not be used with other Windows 2000 Server DC, DNS server, gateway, DHCP server, or system configured as a static IP address. . (4) After enabling ICS, the adapter connected to the home or small office network will receive a new IP address configuration. There are two situations, one is a manner that the use of dynamic allocation of the system, when the computer that enables ICS acts as a DHCP server; the other is a manual setting.

Environment and requirements

The current network environment is as follows: The number of computers: 5 sets, including 3 desktop (hereinafter referred to, C2, C3), two laptops (hereinafter referred to as N1, N2); Current operating system: Windows98 (first edition LAN Overview: Component by a 10M 8-port HUB, a star peer is formed, and data is shared between each other; connection Internet mode: only C1 and N1 can dial the Internet, where C1 uses ISDN, N1 Using MODEM.

Customer requirements:

Using an existing device allows all computers to access Internet; important programs or stores on existing computers, there is an important data, so unless no reinstallation of the operating system.

Connection scheme:

Because C1 is installed with an ISDN device and the configuration is relatively high (PIII 850 CPU, 128M memory), it is determined that the Internet sharing function is started on C1, and other computers access the Internet via C1. Since Windows98 began supporting ICS from the second edition, it is not very stable, so it decides to upgrade C1 to Windows2000 Pro.

Server settings

First, upgrade Windows98 to Windows2000 Pro;

Start Windows98, insert Windows2000 Pro insert the CD drive, the Windows2000 Pro installer starts automatically, follow the system prompts until the upgrade is completed.

Second, new dial-up connection

1. Select "Start" -> Settings -> Network and Dial-up Connections, click New Connection, start the Network Connection Wizard. 2, skip the welcome screen, select "Dial to Internet" in the second page network connection type, next. 3. In the first page of the Internet Connection Wizard dialog box, select "Manually set the Internet connection or through the LAN (LAN) connection", the next step. 4. Set your Internet connection page in step 2, select "Connect by phone line and modem", next. 5. In the third step of the information, the information connection information is connected in step 1, do not select "Use the Area Code and Dial Rules", add "163" in the phone number box, next. 6. Information on the 3rd step Internet account, step 2, fill in the username and password used to dial the Internet, the next step. 7. Information on the 3rd step Internet account Connection Section 3 Configure your computer to change the connection name to "shared 163", the default is also, next. 8. Set "No" in step 4 to set "No", the next step is completed. 9. Test the new dial-up connection that is just established until it is normal. Third, start ICS

1, "Start" -> "Settings" -> "Network and Dial-up Connections", right-click the dial-up connection "shared 163" that I have just created, click the Properties shortcut menu. 2. On the Share tab, select "Enable this connection to the Internet Connection Sharing" checkbox. 3. On the Share tab, select the Enable Request Dialing check box so that as long as any local area network user needs to access the resource online, the server is automatically dial-up when the Internet has not established an Internet connection. 4. Switch to the Options tab, when the system prompts "Internet connection sharing is enabled, the LAN adapter will be set to use IP address 192.168.0.1". Computers may lose connection with other computers on the network. If these computers have a static IP address, they should be set to automatically get an IP address. Do you really need to enable Internet connection sharing? ", Select" Yes ", ICS is started. 5. On the Options tab, select the" Disabled Redial "dialog box, set the free time before the hanging is set to" 5 minutes ", and other settings use the default Can. 6. Determine exit. Client settings

Take N1 as an example, the settings of other machines are similar to this, no longer repetition.

First, IP address settings

(1) Automatically obtain the IP address "Control Panel" -> "Network" to open the Network dialog. Setting the TCP / IP property of the NIC to automatically obtain the IP address to automatically obtain the DNS server address. Determine exit. (2) Manually set the IP address to set the address of the computer to "192.168.0.2", the subnet mask is "255.255.255.0", the gateway is "192.168.0.1", the DNS server address is "192.168.0.1", determined to exit . (3) Note If all machines are used to all machines, all machines are used, if the part of the use part is not possible to cause an address conflict.

Second, IE settings

1. Click Internet Options on the Tools menu. 2. On the Connection tab, click No Dial-up Connection, and then click LAN Settings. 3. In Auto Configuration, clear the Auto Detection Settings and "Use Auto Configuration Scripts" checkbox. 4. In the Proxy Server, clear the "Using the Proxy Server" check box.

Third, other software settings (take the network ant as an example)

Because the N1 has a dial-up connection, the network ant will still use the dial-up connection to download file, remove the problem that the built-in MODEM uses a LAN to share the Internet, there are two solutions: 1, delete N1 The dial-up connection, the network ant will automatically use the current connection; Fourth, test

1, PING the server. 2, test browse the webpage: Open IE, enter www.aboutnt.com ", if the C1 does not have an Internet connection, you can find that C1 will automatically dial the Internet. 3. Test the other software usage.

Application and service settings

First, configure the network application for a computer sharing this connection

1. Right-click "Sharing 163", on the Application tab of the Properties dialog box, click Add. 2. In Application Name, type the app name that is easy to identify. 3. In the Remote Server Port number, type the remote server port number where the application is located, and then click TCP or "UDP". 4. In "TCP" or "UDP", or both, type the port number of the primary network to be connected to the application. Some applications require TCP and UDP port numbers.

Second, to configure the service to provide users on the remote network

1. Right-click "Sharing 163", on the Service tab of the Properties dialog box, click Add. 2. In the Service Name, type the service name that is easy to identify. 3. In the Service Port number, type the port number of the service in the computer, and then click TCP or "UDP". 4. In the "Dedicated Network Server Computer Name or Address", type the name or TCP / IP address of the computer on the primary network of the service.

Through the above steps, you can connect home networks or small office networks to the Internet. Here, I wish you success!
