Abstract Briefly introduces the architecture and technology implementation of the MMS business, and explores the way to implement interconnection interconnection between MMS business between different operations. Solutions for the current MMS business presentation and look forward to the development trend of MMS business. Key words MMS MMS Internet Content Providers 1. Introduction In order to meet the growing information communication requirements, on the basis of existing SMS business and EMS business, there has been a new information service that can further improve information service performance. That is, MMS (Multimedia Message Service). MMS can provide a multimedia data information service for mobile users, which can provide more rich than SMS and EMS, but also combine different properties. For example, for the photo with a text description, add a sound effect to the animation, add accompaniment music for video clips, and so on. Through MMS, mobile users can easily transmit multimedia information such as video clips, pictures, sounds, and texts and any combination between them, implement instant mobile terminals, mobile terminals and E-mail and value-added business servers. Multimedia information transmitted between the mobile terminal. Second, MMS architectural MMS business does not rely on specific bearer network platforms, both GSM, GPRS, CDMA, or future 3G networks, can support MMS services. MMS can integrate the connection between the different networks of existing messages can be done through IP and related message protocols, ensuring compatibility of multimedia messages for different wireless networks. As can be seen from Figure 1, new network elements in the multimedia message system include: (1) MMS User Agent MMS User Agent Provides multimedia message service through the MMS terminal, MMS user agent is one of the multimedia message terminal Application, it can be located in an external device directly connected to the user equipment. MMS User Agent provides user browsing, editing, processing multimedia messages, etc., send, receive, delete, etc. MMS User Agents support MIME (Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions). Multimedia messages are represented by MIME format, and multimedia messages can include text, images, sounds, and other data by definition of different subtypes in MIME.
Figure 1 MMS architecture
The MMS user agent also provides negotiation of user terminals to receive multimedia SMS capabilities; send multimedia SMS notifications to users; encrypting and decrypting users; multimedia SMS signing between users; in the case of user SIM cards support MMS, processing SIM cards and MMS related information; management of user characteristics.
(2) MMSC (MMS RELAY / SERVER)
The MMSC Multimedia Message Center contains the functionality of the MMS server and MMS relay, and the multimedia message is protocol conversion, content adapt, store, and schedule, complete the transfer operation between multimedia messages between different multimedia devices. At the same time, the MMSC generates a bill for billing. Among them, the MMS server is responsible for storing and processing multimedia short messages in both directions. Multiple MMS servers can be available in each MMSE. The MMS server can work with the external network's E-mail server, SMS servers, etc., provide users with rich service types for users. The MMS repeater is responsible for delivering messages between different messages to integrate various types of servers in different networks. In addition, the MMS repeater should be capable of generating billing data (CDR) when receiving or transmitting messages to other MMS user agents or additional MMSE. The MMS repeater and the MMS server also have the function of address translation and temporary storage multimedia SMS, ensuring that multimedia SMS will not be lost before successfully transferring to another MMSE (multimedia message business environment) entity.
(3) MMS user databases (MMS User Database)
MMS user database stores related to user-related business information (such as user service characteristics, control of user access to MMS services), personalized information, interface information, etc.
(4) MMS Vas Applicatons (MMS Value Application Server)
External value-added application servers mainly provide value-added business services.
(5) Billing system (billing system)
The billing system is mainly a charging operation of the MMSC system.
(6) External Servers (external server)
For example, email servers, fax servers, and unified messaging servers, etc.
Repeated use of the original network element with HLR, which provides user signing information to MMSC via the MM5 interface. Figure 1 lists the commonly used interfaces in the current MMS system is MMI-MM8. These interfaces follow the corresponding interface specifications.
Third, the technical implementation of MMS business
The MMS system has two ways of WAP-based implementation and IP-based implementation.
WAP-based implementation
In the MMS application implemented using the WAP protocol, the entire link can be divided into two parts: the first part is the link between the MMS user agent and the WAP gateway, which uses the WAP protocol stack structure, and in various Universal services are available in different wireless media. The second part is the link between the WAP gateway and the MMS repeater, and the connection between them uses IP technology, and the high-level use standard HTTP protocol communicates. In the process of communication, the WAP gateway is a transparent device that does not explain and modify the data it forwarded. Taking a typical MMS communication process as an example, several phases it takes to be:
(1) MMS user agent sends multimedia SMS;
(2) MMS repeater notifies the target user agent has multimedia SMS to arrive;
(3) Target MMS user agent receives multimedia SMS;
(4) Target MMS User Agent Sends a receiving confirmation message to the MMS repeater;
(5) The MMS repeater to the source MMS user agent reports the result of multimedia SMS transmission.
2. IP-based implementation
Depending on the business provided, communication between the MMS user agent and the MMS repeater / server can use the application layer protocols such as SMTP, POP3, IMAP4, and HTTP.
Similar to WAP-based implementation, links between user terminals to the MMS server / repeater are also divided into two parts. The high-level protocols used in the two parts are the same, and the difference is that the transport layer protocol, the MMS user agent, and the IP gateway can use the TCF protocol that is suitable for the wireless link feature, and between the IP gateway to the MMS repeater / server. Communication uses a normal TCP protocol.
Fourth, the interoperability of the business MMS business
At present, there is no interworking between MMS services between operators in China. This paper proposes an operator's MMS business interoperability, and the network structure is shown in Figure 2. The function modules shown in the figures are partitioned from logical functions, and do not necessarily stick this when actually implementation.
Note: External servers: such as email servers, fax servers, and unified messaging servers, etc.
Value-added application: Provide value-added business services.
Figure 2 Schematic diagram of MMS business network interworking network structure
As can be seen from Figure 2, the interoperability of the MMS service between the operators needs to be implemented through the two Internet. Among them, the short message internet gateway is mainly responsible for the interworking of the text short message notification in the MMS business, and a point-to-peer inter-network interworking protocol is used between the short message internet. MMS Internet Off Complete Protocol Translation, Data Distribution, and Generate Various MMS Accounting Units. A SMTP protocol is used between the MMS Internet Gateway.
V. Main technical issues and solutions in MMS
(1) Limitations of MMS mobile phone itself: There are currently a few vendors to introduce color screen phones that support MMS business, but there are fewer prices.
Workaround: Terminal manufacturers try to introduce most mobile phone users to receive MMS terminals as possible.
(2) Compatibility of different brands of mobile phones: Sending MMS between mobile phones in different brands often cannot succeed. This is mainly because the pictures and sound formats supported by various brands of mobile phones are not the same.
Workaround: The implementation of the terminal that supports MMS is unified, and the current label is initially stated as follows:
·display. Support at least 3 lines of Chinese characters, each row of Chinese characters is not less than 4 words, requiring the MMS terminal to be compatible with existing color screen displays, at least 256 color display.
·sound. At least one or more of I-melody, WAV, MIDI is supported. For 3G MMS terminals, AMR sound should be supported. · Pure text format, such as GB 13000.1-1993, TSB 58, US-ASCII, ISO-8859-1, UTF-8.
· Static image. The ability to process 100 × 120 pixel images should be supported, and the image format should support one or all of JPEG, GIF87A, GIF89A, WBMP.
· Video format. At least MPEG4 (Visual Simple Profile, Level O) and ITU-T are H. Any one or more of the PROFILE 3LEVEL 10.
· Media synchronization and expression format, such as SMIL, XHTML Mobile Profile.
(3) Question of the service content (MMS service content issues): MMS is characterized by personalization, and we must provide rich information to attract users. Although the current technology and infrastructure construction is not a problem, MMS still lacks substantive service content. The MMS's largest feature is to support multimedia functions, and the transmission mode can be transmitted between mobile phones and applications in addition to delivery between mobile phones.
Workaround: Develop an open value-added business interface so that content developers will introduce a large number of attractive MMS services as soon as possible, and make the majority of users to order business, how to cancel business, and promote the rapid development of MMS business.
6. The development trend of MMS
The MMS business transitions the traditional text short message mode to multimedia mode, bringing a new way of communication and fully feels the fun of communications. At present, the MMS business has gradually entered people's daily lives, and with the continuous launch of a variety of colorful MMS content, the MMS business will have further developments and to a greater extent affect people's lives. According to analysis, the MMS business will develop in the following directions:
(1) Carry out various value-added services based on mobile MMS. For example, combine the mail system and the MMS business, making the advantages of the two services, allowing users to experience content and services similar to traditional internet on wireless networks. Another example MMS can be combined with the existing LCS (location service), via MMS, to send a clear and clear electronic map to the user, and the user has a look.
(2) Interconnection of the MMS business between different operators. Interconnection allows users to use MMS business without being affected by operators in using MMS services, which can use MMS services more conveniently.
Seven, conclude
With the gradual interconnection of the operational business MMS business, the MMS business is increasing, and the MMS business will have a new experience to people's lives like flourishing text short message business, and create a makement for operators. People's new gain growth point, and with the gradual promotion of MMS business, it will further promote the continuous development of new business and content, the diversity of new business and the demand for new content will ensure the continued service and content providers increase.
In summary, the MMS business will become a new growth point of mobile value-added business, which will be the same as the text short message service, and bring rich profits to the operators and content providers.
