PocketPC Application - Transcribes tape to PocketPC! (Reproduced)

Reprinted from "Microsoft China"! ! !

For your Pocket PC "crawling" box tape I have a considerable audio and self-service audio box, all I often listen, especially when driving for a long time. However, I didn't have a loose tape in the car, and I also found a way to redefine their format, listen to them with Windows Media Player.

Need to have the tool you need is quite simple (and not expensive):

1. First, you need recording software, so that your PC copies the tape and redefines the format. There are several such software, but you need to have some important features. The software must be able to record the sound source input from the line and can be recorded as a Windows Media format. I use Musicmatch Jukebox 6.0, there are several reasons: can be downloaded from MusicMatch [/ URL] Site free download. A variety of sound sources can be recorded, including CD, line input, and microphone input. It can be recorded in a relatively high compression format, and the sound is as low as 5 kb per second.

2. You need a cartridge player to play the cartridge that needs to be recorded. You can use any player, but it must have a headphone jack.

3. Requires an audio cable to connect the headphone jack on the box player and the wiring socket on the PC. It can be purchased (fitting number 42-2387a) in Radio Shack. [img] http://www.microsoft.com/china/mobile/pocketpc/images/t_rippingaudio1.gif [/ iv]

4. You will eventually need an ActiveSync connection to connect your Pocket PC, and copy the recording tape contents of the redefined format.

It is insisted that because the file compression ratio of this method is still low (for example, compared to audio books downloaded from Audible.com), the final file may be quite large. However, this approach is still much cheaper than re-collected a bunch of download books.

step

These are the steps you need to use by MusicMatch JukeBox. The steps to use other recording software will be similar.

1. Place the boxes you want to copy in the box player. Then insert one end of the audio cable into the player's headphone jack and the other end is inserted into the line entry of your PC. [img] http://www.microsoft.com/china/mobile/pocketpc/images/t_rippingaudio2.gif [/ iv]

2. Start MusicMatch JukeBox. Select "Options" from the upper part of its main screen, then "Set". Then select the "Recorder" tab. Here, choose the required recording quality. Because most of my boxes have only speech, the quality is not important. So I chose Windows Media as the format and drag the slider to the leftmost end, 5 kb per second. Then, select "OK". Description: If the quality is more important and is a music cartridge, select the MP3 format, 64 kb or higher per second. This way, you can get higher quality while minimizing the files. 3. On the main screen of the MusicMatch Jukebox, select the "Record" button, which is the button with a red dot. This opens the song information screen. You can edit the tag of the recording by clicking on the "Artist", "Album" and song name. [img] http://www.microsoft.com/china/mobile/pocketpc/images/t_rippingAudio4.gif [/ img] 4. Now, click on the "Recording" button under the Album Information window; this starts actual recording step. Waiting for recording actual starts seem to take a few seconds, patient. When the count on the right side of the song begins to increase, you will know it.

5. Next, press the "Play" button on the player. When recording, you should be able to hear the sound of the box with the speaker of the PC. When you are ready to stop recording, just click on the "Stop" button next to "Recording" on the MusicMatch Jukebox main screen. When you have completed the recording, you just need to copy the recording file to the Pocket PC's My Documents (My Document) directory using ActiveSync. Because these files may be quite huge, I copied them to the My Documents (My Document) directory on the CompactFlash [$ # 8482] (or multimedia) card.

6. When you start the Windows Media Player on the Pocket PC, your new recording file will appear in the playlist.

Some suggestions ...

To complete this step smoothly, I have some additional advice:

1. Create a separate recording file for different chapters on the sound tape. For example, I created a new file for every side of each cartridge that I recorded. In this way, I can only copy the file I want to listen to to my Pocket PC, saving the space on the device.

2. The sound quality is really not important for the sound. Therefore, the minimum quality recording allowed by the software. This way, you can minimize the final file.

3. If possible, use the AC converter when recording to provide electrical energy for the cartridge player. This ensures that the player's battery will not be fired during recording.

in conclusion

I have already used this method to record all my few unclear self-service box (I need "a lot of" help), but this method can also be used for music cartridges. So, every time I plan to drive long distance, I know that I can listen to some old disco's songs, or try to change some bad habits, so that you can spend this long time.
