Virtual PC 5.2 Trial Instruction

Since I need to use a software called Smart Check, I have to use Win98, and I use XP now, but I don't want to reinstall the system or install a double system, so I have to choose to use virtual machines. I used VM Ware before, but I feel generally, it is not very convenient, so this time I changed the Virtual PC, I really feel good, and I have considered humanization.

The installation of the Virtual PC is very convenient. In addition to first installing a so-called support component, other software installations are the same, soon, and do not restart OS.

The Virtual PC is also very convenient, as long as you have a little bit of PC knowledge, you can set it very simple. The author just wants to talk about the use considerations in the following two aspects.

1. About the use of the network.

Virtual PC has three network modes, named, NAT, virtual conversion network, where virtual conversion networks include four ways: only local, local, host, local, host, and external, only external.

When you are finished on a virtual machine, you will find such a network device in the Device Manager: Intel 21140 Based 10/100 MPBS Ethernet Controller (the 10/100 MPBS here seems to be 10/100 Mbps, But I don't know why I will show this in OS. It is estimated that the developer is not small, huh, huh ~~~), in fact, it is a virtual network card.

If you choose to use the NAT mode, the host is equivalent to a proxy server when working in this mode, assigns a virtual machine (DHCP) to a virtual machine (ie, the internal network IP IP), the virtual machine through the sharing host IP address (external network IP) to access external networks. This mode is easy to use, almost no configuration is modified. However, the Virtual PC has no independent external network IP, which brings a large disadvantage: external networks (including hosts) cannot access virtual machines directly. If you only use the Virtual PC Internet, you can consider this mode, which avoids hackers, viruses, etc. to damage the host. But because the host has no Virtual PC, a single unit network is obviously unable to implement.

If you choose to use a virtual conversion network, the mode requires the host to first have a valid IP address. If it is a stand-alone, the easiest way is to install a network card and use a static IP allocation method. In addition, due to software, the host must install the Windows 2000 / XP operating system to use virtual exchange mode. When running in this mode, the Virtual PC is equivalent to a bridge, coupled between the host and the Virtual PC, which constitutes a virtual local area network. Virtual PC has a stand-alone IP address, support network neighbors, TCP / IP and other protocols.

Suppose the host operating system is an XP professional version, uses a static IP allocation method, IP address 192.168.1.5, subnet mask 255.255.255.0; WINDOWS 98 is installed on the Virtual PC. First modify the network properties of the Virtual PC in the Virtual PC: Click the "Properties Settings" button, select "Network" in the pop-up dialog box, change the property to "Virtual Conversion Network - Local, Main, and External". Next, modify the configuration of the operating system on the Virtual PC, start the Virtual PC, at which point the user is equivalent to a computer that is installed with Windows 98. Enter the Control Panel, open the network settings: Allow file sharing, which can exchange data between the host and the Virtual PC through the network neighbor; set the TCP / IP protocol to use the static IP allocation method, IP address 192.168.1.6, subnet mask 255.255. 255.0, domain name services and gateways are not required, and can be set according to the actual situation. If dynamic IP allocation (DHCP) is used, then in the Virtual PC is also set in the same way; when you are online on a stand-alone platform, it is best to use inexpensive 10M NIC. Because in Windows 2000 / XP, if you use a 100M network card, the NIC will be in the "disconnected" state, the setting IP address will become "return address" 127.0.0.1, this address Can't be used for network transmission. The solution is to connect the NIC to a hub.

2, the use of the ISO file.

In the Virtual PC, all ISO files with startup files are usually used to start the system and install the system. Just plug in the ISO file when you want to use, then restart the virtual PC.
