Fiber Distributed Data Interface (FDDI) - Network Code

Fiber Distributed Data Interface (FDDI) is a set of protocols that send digital signals on the cable on the cable. FDDI uses a double-loop token network topology, and the transmission rate can reach 100 Mbps. FDDI is usually used as a backbone network due to support high broadband and long-distance communication networks. CCDI is a variant of FDDI, which uses a twisted copper to transport media, and the data transfer rate is usually 100 Mbps.

FDDI-2 is FDDI supplemental protocol, support voice, video, and data transmission. Another variable of FDDI, called FDDI full duplex technology FFDT, which uses the same network structure as FDDI, but the transmission rate can reach 200Mbps.

FDD components composed of fibers, the basic structure is reverse bicyclic ring, one ring as the main ring, and the other ring is a spare ring. Under normal circumstances, the primary ring is used for data transmission, and the standby ring is idle. As mentioned in this article, the double ring structure is capable of providing high reliability and anti-wrong Robustness.

FDDI details the physical layer and media access layer of the OSI reference model. Substantially FDDI is not a single network architecture, but consists of four sub-parts, each of which has their own specific functions. After each part is merged, the FDDI structure has the function of connecting the upper layer protocol (such as TCP / IPX) and media (eg, cable).
