【Battery】
Nickel-cadmium battery pack (PB-13)
The battery must be charged before use. The battery does not reach the best cycle charge when you order the factory. It is necessary to circulate and discharge it before reaching maximum discharge performance. If you idle the battery for more than two months, you need to recharge before use.
2. Repeat charging
Insert the charger (BC-14) plug into the socket top of the machine, and then connect the charger to the AC power. Do not allow charging for more than 15 hours, if you exceed the recommended charging time, it will affect the battery life and performance.
3. Install the battery pack
Insert the battery pack into the machine until it is locked. Sliding the release button to the right can remove the battery pack.
4. Battery voltage level
This meter indicates the amount of power during battery emission.
The battery needs to be charged or replaced when the level reaches the low electricity instruction.
Manganese or alkaline battery
In the battery case (BT-8), a 6-section 5 helicanese or alkaline battery is applied, and it is recommended to use high energy alkaline batteries.

Open power saving function

[Receiving operation]
Start using
Install battery packs and antennas.
Press the power switch to turn on the machine and the default frequency will be displayed on the screen.
If an error or display frequency is displayed, reset the microprocessor (refer to 18 Page Initialization Memory).
1) Rotate the volume control clockwise until the signal or noise is heard. 2) Rotate the FM control button to select an open channel.
3) Clockwise rotate the static noise (SQL) control button until noise disappears and display the lamp "busy"
2. Select frequency
You have several ways to select frequency:
Use the button to enter the specified frequency
Use the FM control
Select a stored channel (reference 20)
Press the call (CALL) button
Keyboard direct input frequency
The following demo uses TH28 how to enter 145.050MHz.
1) If the machine is switched to the VFO mode by the VFO key in channel mode or call mode (Call).
2) Press the numeric keypad to enter the corresponding number.
Use the fax knob
The frequency frequency knob is high or a low continuous step in change frequency, clockwise or counterclockwise rotating the modifier knob to select the desired frequency.
3. Selection of stepping frequency
The selection step inverting frequency must be in VFO mode.
The step frequency size of the selection of FM or scans requires the following steps:
1) Press the F button and press the MHZ / STEP button to display the current step frequency.

4. Programmable VFO FM
This unit provides a function of programming the VFO frequency modulation range, providing a separate programmable band scan function in a 1MHz band. (Refer to page 24)
For example: You want the machine to faster only within two frequency bands of 144.000 and 145.000, you can do the following:
1) Rotate the Frequency Direction until the lowest frequency you want to limit, this example is: 144.000MHz.
2) Press the M key and keep it more than 1 second, then press 7 buttons, the lowest frequency has been set.
3) Rotate the Frequency Direction until the highest frequency you want to limit, this example is: 145.000MHz.
4) Press the M key and keep it more than 1 second, then press 4 buttons, the highest frequency is also set.
5) Rotate the Frequency Cath to confirm that the machine does not adjust to the frequency that has been restricted on the upper side.
To clear the two programming limits to reset the VFO memory, refer to 18 pages.
You can rearrange any restricted bands through the appropriate instructions above.
Note: This feature is invalid in sub-band.
5. Sub-band reception
Press the BAND button.
The sub-band frequency will be displayed, you can choose the frequency you want to use in accordance with the second section of this chapter.
[Launch operation]
The antenna needs to be installed before the launch is to check if the frequency is correct.
1. Use the following steps:
1) Use any method to select an operating frequency.
2) Check if this frequency is occupied before transmitting.
3) Press the transmit button (PTT), the ON Air indicator, and the power indication will illuminate.
4) Speaking against the microphone, the recommended distance is 5 cm. It is too close to too much or too far to cause the signal too strong or too weak.
5) Store the PTT button, return to the reception mode, the ON Air indicator and the electric quantity.
2. Change the transmit power
Pressing the LOW button to replace 4 different transmit power. The actual transmit power depends on the remaining power of the power supply, and the indicator displays the currently selected transmit power.
E and L indicators represent low power of the economy when communicating in a short distance, using EL power.
The indicator indicates a low power and a short-range communication uses L power.
M indicator indicates the middle equivalent.
No power indicator indicates the maximum power transmission.
3. Turn off the launch (TX) function
The TX STOP feature allows you to prohibit the machine to transmit, press the F key, then press the low / tx.s key to convert the TX STOP function to open or close. 4. Timed operation
This unit has timeout timer function to prevent accidental problems that may encounter results in continuous emission. This feature is forced to stop transmitting after 10 minutes, and the time set by the timer is exceeded, the machine will be beep and return to the reception mode, and can be transmitted again according to the transmit button again.
This feature does not allow users to open and close operations.
[Use memory]
Data backup
All stored channel data, call channel data, DTSS encoding, message, and finally displayed channels and VFO frequencies are saved in the EEPROM. This data will always be saved unless you reset the memory.
The other data is maintained by the lithium battery in one machine. When the machine does not connect the battery pack or an external DC power supply, the battery can provide a save time for about 20 days.
When this battery is completely discharged, it needs to be charged for 10 hours after you connect a nickel-cadmium battery pack or an external power source to achieve the best use.
2. Enter the storage data
Enter the operation of the stored data is relatively simple, just you need to hold the data you want to store as you can save.
Enter the channel
1) Use the digital buttons to select the frequency, difference frequency, and other information you want to receive. If the frequency you want is already in the frequency you want, continue until 2.
2) Press the M key, the number indicating the channel on the screen will flash.
3) Press the key to enter the channel number (00 ~ 39) you want to set, enter the channel number with two digits, such as 2 channel input 02, 15 channel input 15.
4) Press the MR key.
5) The channel number is no longer flashing, and the displayed frequency has been saved in this channel.
Delete channel
Delete the frequency that has been stored in the channel by following these steps:
1) Select the channel number you want to delete.

3) The selected channel has been removed from the memory.
3. Initialization memory
Turn on the M key while opening the power switch can reset the memory, all LCD indicators displays the red screen and release the M key. This will clear all the user's storage content and restore the factory's factory parameter settings.

VFO reset
Turn on the power switch to reset the VFO memory of the microprocessor while holding down the F key. This does not affect the stored channel, clock, message, automatic DTMF, programmable scan scan range limit, Paging, or Call (CALL) content.
4. Storage channel
This unit provides 40 channel storage (00 ~ 39), which will provide additional channel storage from 40 to 239 after adding ME-1 (storage extension unit).
5. Store content

Confirm the input difference frequency
1) Press the MR key to select " " and "-" on the screen to indicate that this channel has been set up.
2) Press the F button, press the REV button or the PTT key to check if the transmit frequency displayed in the screen is correct.
7. Enter the frequency of calls (CALL)
1) Use the button to enter the received frequency, tone, and other information. 2) Press the M key, then press the CALL button within 10 seconds, the call frequency is set. If you need to set the difference, continue step 3.
3) Enter the transmit frequency you want to set.
4) Press M key.
5) Press the CALL button while holding down the PTT key.
6) Let the PTT key and set it.
8. Tune the stored channel
Press the MR key, you can change the channel by two ways.
Use digital buttons
Enter the channel number you want to set.
Switch to three storage mode.
If ME-1 is installed, the memory channel exceeding 100 cannot be adjusted under two storage mode (initial mode). You must switch to three mode.
1) Press the F button for more than 1 second, then press the MR key. Cyclic conversion will be performed between 2-bit-3-bit-1 -2 bits. (Translator Note: If ME-1 is not installed, it will be converted between 2 - 1 bits.)
2) Repeat the operation until you set it to the mode you want.
Frequency knob
Clock-clockwise or counterclockwise rotate the modifier knob to select the channel you want.
9. Turn the frequency in the channel into the VFO mode
Press the F button, then press the VFO button to transfer the current frequency in the channel or call channel to the VFO mode, which does not affect the stored data.
The frequency within the proclaimable VFO is not to be transferred to the VFO mode.
Note: When this function is used in the channel provided with the different frequency, only the received frequency is transferred to the VFO mode.
10. Display of characters in the channel
You can enter characters instead of displaying the frequency in the channel, and its length must be set to 6 characters, you can use numbers 0 to 9, letters A to Z and blank.
If this mode is used, channels 00 to 19 will be displayed, and channels 20 to 39 will be occupied and used as storage of character information. If there is frequency data in channels 20 to 39, it is replaced with character information data. (Translator plus: channels 20 ~ 39 will no longer be used because its storage space is occupied by character data)
If you have ME-1 installed, channels 40 to 139 will automatically become channels 20 ~ 119. (Translator Note: Consider should be 40 ~ 239 to 20 ~ 219)
Function settings
1) Press and hold the MR button to press the power switch. (This operation can switch the opening and closing of this mode)
2) Press the MR key to enter channel mode.
3) Select a stored channel.
4) Press the M key and press the MHZ button to enter the message setting mode.
5) Use the button to enter the message, refer to page 43 About the correspondence between the button and the letter.
6) If you enter an error, press the VFO button to start again from step 5.
7) Press the MR key to end.
8) You can display other channels in accordance with step 2-6.
If a message is assigned to a storage channel, this information will replace the original frequency display. If you want to see the frequency of this channel, you can press the F button, then press 5.
Restore channel frequency display
1) Select the channel to cancel the message display.
2) Press and hold the m key for more than 1 second, then press the MHZ button. The message display will be canceled, and the frequency will replace it.

For normal scans, the static noise knob (SQL) must be adjusted to start with the alert function.
Substance / recovery scanning
This unit provides two types of scanning operations:
Cycle Scanning Operation (TIME)
The machine stops when scanning to an occupied channel and keeps approximately 5 seconds and then proceeding to the scan.
The carrier scanning operation stops when scanned to a occupied channel and remains to the signal disappears. In order to prevent the signal of a channel, it will delay in 2 seconds and then enter the next channel scan.
The machine defaults to the cycle scan mode when the machine is shipped, and the following method switches between two modes.
Press the power switch while holding down the 5 key.
Note: 1) In CTCSS operation, the scan is stopped only when scanned to the matching CTCSS encoding.
2) In DTSS operation, as long as a signal is received, he stops scanning (the static noise function cannot be opened), and the slefit function can be opened in any case when scanning to a DTSS signal, no matter where it is necessary, etc.
3) When the CTCSS and DTSS are opened at the same time, the scan is stopped after receiving a suitable CTCSS signal. When the scan is stopped, if the DTSS signal has been received, the static noise function can be opened.

Note: This machine can only scan the stored frequency and is not locked, and there must be 2 or more channels already store frequencies.
1) Adjust the static noise knob to the starting position.
2) Press the MR key to switch to channel mode.
3) Press and hold the MR key for more than one second. When the scan begins, the decimal bits of the frequency indication will flash.
4) Press the PTT button to stop the scan.
4. Lock the stored channel
This feature allows you to specify that you want to give up the scanned channel in the channel scan.
1) Select the channel you don't want to scan.
2) Press the F button and press 6 / L.out key.
A star indicator shows the lower part of the channel number, indicating that this channel is skipped when channel scan.
3) Repeat the first and second steps to lock any other channels to give up.
4) Want to cancel the lock of this channel, choose this channel, and can cancel the second step.
5. Band scan
1) Adjust the static noise knob to the starting position.
2) Press the MR key to switch to the VFO mode
3) Press and hold the MR button for more than one second, start scanning by low frequency to high frequency, and the decimal bits of the frequency indication will flash.
4) When scanning a stronger signal, the scan is paused, the BUSY indicator is on.
5) Press the PTT button to stop the scan.
6. Programmable band scan
This machine can edit two scan bands. Scan upper and lower limit frequencies can be limited to each band.

1) Rotate the FM control knob and select the scan upper limit frequency.
2) Press the M key for more than 1 second, then press 5.
3) Rotate the FM control knob and select the scan lower limit frequency.

7. MHz scan

Different frequency launch

USA and Canada version

European version
TH-28E automatically sets the following difference.
Cancel automatic difference frequency

This operation is switched between open and closing the automatic difference frequency.
4. Manual difference frequency
The machine sets the default difference value when the machine is shipped, and you can select your own difference frequency value between 0 ~ 99.9MHz.
1) Press and hold the VFO button and turn on the power switch.
2) Press the F button for more than 1 second, then press the 0 button. The current difference value will be displayed.
3) Rotate the Frequency Coven knob and select the difference frequency you want to set.
4) Press any panel button to return to normal display mode.
If you want to recover the standard difference, reset the VFO (refer to 18 pages)
5. Upside down reception and emission frequency
Some tricks use the received and transmit frequencies that are reversed with other tricks.
Such as: The reception frequency of the relay station A is 146.000, the transmit frequency is 146.600; the accepted frequency of the relay station B is 146.600, which is 140.000, so that when you want to use this relay, you will be reset when you want to use this relay. The opposite difference frequency. It can be easily upside down the difference with the following operations to achieve the effect of fast switching between two interrupts.
Press the F button, press the Shift / Rev button, an indicator R is displayed on the screen, indicating that your current difference is reversed.
Press the F button, then press the Shift / REV button to return to the normal state, the indicator R is off.
6. Tone operation
Some tricks need a control signal to be activated.
In the United States, use low frequency tones.
In Europe and the United Kingdom, use a 1750HZ tone transmit signal, just press and hold the TONE key to send, do not need to press the PTT key.
Set tone frequency
1) Press the F button, press the TONE button, the screen will display the current tone frequency.
2) Rotate the Frequency knob and select the tone frequency you want to set. 3) Press the TONE button again or wait for 10 seconds, set up.
Send tone
Press the TONE button, a T indicator is on, and press the PTT button to send you the tone you set.
7. Call forwarding (AutoPatch Operations)
(This feature is only available)
Some relay provides call forwarding capabilities, allowing you to use the transceiver to call a phone number and communicate.
This feature needs to use the DTMF (Dual Tone Multi Frequency "keypad, more four keys than 12 keys: A, B, C, D.
These keys are used to make some different control operations on some relay systems, which show these keys to generate correspondence between different audio.
Activate DTMF keypad:
While holding down the PTT key, call the phone number on the keyboard like a normal phone.
Note: Some relays need a specified key sequence to activate forwarding function, contacting the relay operator to get this sequence code.
If you press the VFO button before pressing the number key, you will empty a mono, you can hear (see the top left on the left).
Select delay time
If you don't want to press and hold the PTT key while dialing the phone number, you can do the following:
1) Turn off the power switch.
2) Turn on the power switch while holding down the 3 key.

8.DTMF Storage

Store DTMF encoding

1) Press the BAND button while holding down the PTT key.
2) Press a number of numbers corresponding to the channel you store the DTMF number.

9.CTCSS operation
Continuous Tone Code Squelch System --- Continuous Audio Code Staic Sick System (CTCSS)
CTCSS unit (TSU-7) is only available in the US and Canadian version, please refer to page 55 for the installation of the chip.
If you open the CTCSS function, the machine will turn off the audio system until it receives a matching audio signal.
Please refer to page 29 for this audio frequency.
Open the CTCSS as follows:
Press the F button, then press the 3 button, a CTCSS indicator lights up.
The audio system will filter out any signal unless it contains an audio signal that matches the CTCSS encoding with the unit.

The transceiver also has 10 message memory storage channels. If you press the Message button, the message is in the message, the last stored information will be displayed;

8, clear the receiving information in the memory

Note: This action cannot clear the information you store to send.

Audio warning system
In the audio warning state, when someone is in progress on this frequency, it will send a warning to remind you.
If you set a audio alert, you can't hear it. If the CTCSS is also open, the role of synthesis is similar to a private paging system.
The automatic shutdown (APO) function is blocked during the audio warning work.
Open the audio warning system:
1) Adjust the static noise knob (SQL) to the start. 2) Select a suitable tone, if you plan to use the CTCSS function, check if the CT indicator lights up.
3) Press the F button, then press the 0 key, the indicator light T.ALT lights up.
4) When this frequency is received, it is approximately every 5 seconds, and the indicator light T.alt and Busy will lit and accompany the beep.
5) While receiving the signal, the current time will also be displayed, each time you receive a new signal, this time is followed.
6) Press the PTT key to close the audio warning.
7) Press the F button, then press the 0 button to completely close the warning function.
Note: In order to make the audio warning function can work well in the case of CTCSS, the alarm must last for about 1 second to the received signal. This feature can also be used with the DTSS or paging (PAGING) function, at this time, the alert will occur only when the matching encoding is received.
Select the tone of the alert

2. Received

4. Backlights

5. Keyboard lock

6. Simple channel display

Power saving mode
This unit provides a power saving mode to save power, when the machine does not operate after 10 seconds, the node circuit will start. This feature requires static noise to be opened, and once any key is pressed or the static noise is turned off, the node circuit is turned off.
The node circuit does not work during the opening of the scan function and the audio warning function.
Set up power level
You can change the role of power saving function.
1) Press and hold the F button and keep it more than 1 second or more.
2) Select the appropriate ratio between 1: 1 to 1: 16 using the frequency knob.
3) Press any key to return and set it.
2. Automatically turn off the power (APO)
1) If there is no operation within 59 minutes, and the currently no signal is received, it will be called 5 seconds.
2) The machine power will automatically turn off within 1 minute after the call is completed.
Note: Even if this feature is opened, it will not work during the operation of the scan function and the audio warning function.

[Cross-band operation]
Cross-band operation is to allow you to receive in the UHF band, while in the VHF wave section (for TH-28A); or in turn (for TH-48A).

1) Press the BAND button to switch to the sub-band.
2) Set a received frequency using the FM knob or the numeric key, this example is: 145.660 MHz.
3) Press the BAND button.
4) Rotate the Frequency Cathode or use the numeric keys to set a transmit frequency, this example is: 438.100 MHz.
5) Press the F button and press the BAND button. The cross-band indicator lights up and displays the receiving frequency, this example is: 145.660 MHz. You can change this frequency using the frequency band knob.
6) Now pressing the PTT button You can fire in the UHF band.
Perform cross-channel operations using channel mode
