symptom
You may receive the following error message when you start Microsoft Outlook or try to open your personal folder (.pst) file or offline folder (.OST) file, you may receive the following error message:
Errors Have Been Detected in The File
among them
If you run the inbox repair tool (Scanpst.exe), the file cannot solve the problem.
the reason
This problem occurs because the size limit of the .pst file and the .ost file is limited to 2 GB, and an error message will appear when this limit is exceeded. The recipient repair tool cannot correct this problem.
solution
To resolve this issue, download the tool from the Microsoft Download Center below:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/release.asp?releaseid=44353&area=search&ordinal=1
Note: Use this tool to create a copy of the .pst file. The copy left by the tool does not contain all raw data because the tool cuts the data from the file, and the amount of data is defined by the user.
2 GB truncated utility recovery restrictions:
• You must have 2 GB of available hard disk space (for copying of a .pst file). • This utility will truncate the .pst file to make it less than 2 GB. To have enough work space, cut this file is 20 to 25 MB than 2 GB limit. The data cut off is removed from the new copy, which means that some information will be lacked in the recovered copy. You can try to use this procedure to recover data, but the success rate is not 100%. If this tool is successful, it will not be able to recover all the data back (the truncated data will be lost).
You can use the following steps to recover data:
1. Download this tool from the Microsoft Download Center link below:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/release.asp?releaseid=44353&area=search&ordinal=1
2. Expand the self-decompressed archive file into an empty folder. 3. Start the PST2GB.exe program. 4. Click Browse, select the .pst file exceeds the size limit, and then click Open. 5. Click Create, select the name and location of the truncated data file you want to create, and then click Save. 6. Type the amount of data you want to truncate in the .pst file. This quantity has no standard value. Best results can be received when using 20 to 25 MB, but sometimes you may have to truncate more or less data. For example, if you truncate 25 MB of data and this process is successful, repeat this process, but only the original size limit of the .pst file truncated 15 MB. If this can be successful, try truncation 5 MB. If the cut 25 MB is unsuccessful, repeat this process and cut 35 MB of the original .pst. If this process is unsuccessful, add the truncated quantity until the operation is successful. 7. Run the inbox repair tool (Scanpst.exe file) for a smaller .pst file. 8. Open the fixed .pst file in Outlook. 9. This step is recommended, but this step is an optional operation) If the file is open, use the right-click the root folder, click Properties, and then click Start Compression to start compression. For such large files, it takes approximately 4 to 8 hours. 10. If the file is not open, the truncated .pst file should be discard and repeat the above process for the original .pst file. Try to cut more data than the first time, then repeat the operation process. 11. Install the following updates or fixes according to the Outlook version you own. To install, review the following Microsoft Knowledge Base Article: 245025 Off2000: How to get and install Microsoft Office 2000 SR-1 / SR-1A Update
These updates prevent Outlook to allow. PST files more than 2 GB maximum restrictions. Use one of the following methods to manage the size of the.pst file:
• Use multiple .pst files. • Use the archive function. • Save the attachment to the file system folder and remove them from the message. The English version of this tool should have the following or updated file properties:
status
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft products listed in this article.
