Speaking of routers, hardware routers are familiar, most typical is Cisco's series of routers. The software router is an emerging product, such as Tiny Software launched WinRoute Pro software router, VicomSoft's Internet Gateway software router, etc. These routing software work on the Windows Series operating system we are familiar with, allowing the PC to achieve a function similar to the hardware router. In Windows 2000 Server, it is integrated with powerful software routers. In this article, the author will start from the simplest static route, and instance analysis, so that the reader understands how to use the Windows 2000 Server configuration route.

In this example, there are two different network segments, and the network segment is a working group Work1. The IP address is assigned to 10.0.0.2 ~ 10.0.0.5. The subnet mask is 255.0.0.0; the network segment is the Work2, IP of the Work2, IP The address is assigned to 192.168.0.2 ~ 192.168.0.5, the subnet mask is 255.255.255.0. The computer in the two network segments uses a Windows 98 operating system, the network structure is a peer network. To achieve mutual communication between the two network segments, we must forward the IP packet through the router. We use a high-performance computer (Pentium three 866 processor, 256M memory, Mai Tujin drill 7200 to 20G hard drive) WINDOWS 2000 Server, as a software router between two network segments. (Figure 1)

The first step, we must understand that since the router is a storage forwarding device between different network segments, it must have multiple network interfaces, that is, it will inevitably install multiple network cards, can be between multiple network segments Play to "bridge". And the router works in a network environment of TCP / IP, and each block is bound to bind its independent IP address.

In this example, we have to connect two network segments, you must install two network cards in Windows 2000 Server, this time two TF-3239TX 100 M NIC (using Realtek 8139 chip, PCI slot, RJ 45) Single mouth). When installing Windows 2000 Server, pay attention to: 1. This computer with Windows 2000 Server will be a stand-alone server, unnecessaries to the domain controller. When determining which work group belongs to, it can be Work1 or Work2. 2. At least the TCP / IP protocol is to be installed when installing the network protocol. 2, Realtek 8139's network card is the plug-and-play network card, when you find two network cards, you should install their drivers separately until "Control Panel" - "System" - "Hardware" - Device Manager "-" NIC "can see the logo of the two network cards, no yellow exclamation mark, equipment status is" normal work ". If the network card is not working properly because the hardware conflict causes it, the router must not play a role. 3. Bind the IP address for each block, a network interface to Work1, bind 10.0.0.1, (Industrial Standard is assigning the first IP address of the network to the router interface.) The specific step is, "Control Panel" "- Network and Dial Connections -" Local Connection ", select" Properties "-" Internet Protocol (TCP / IP ", select" Properties ", then select" Use the IP address below "to fill in 10.0. 0.1, the subnet mask is 255.0.0.0, the default gateway is "10.0.0.1", click "OK". Another network card is used as a network interface of Work2, binds 192.168.0.1 (Note: "Local Connection" corresponds to A network card, "Local Connection 2" corresponds to the second network card, not to mix) the method. We can click "Advanced" in the Internet Protocol (TCP / IP) "-" Properties "to verify the IP address binding of the network card. (Figure 2). In the second step, start the route. There are two ways to start the routing service. One is to select "Network" in the "Configure Server" tab that appears when booting, click "Routing" under the "Network" drop-down menu; the other is click " Start "-" Programs "- Administrative Tools - Routing and Remote Access, Open Routing and Remote Access Manager, see the server icon named at this computer name. Check this server, right-click, select Configure and Enable Routing and Remote Access, "(Figure 3), then" Routing and Remote Access Server Installation Wizard ", follow the prompt step by step," public Select "Network Router" in Settings, then select the protocol of the route, at least there should be TCP / IP in the protocol box, select it, then "request dial-up connection", when "You want to request dial-up access remote network ? ", Because we are configuring a local static route, so select" No ", finally click Finish, the routing service is installed.

After starting the route service, we can see the "Routing Interface" "Internal", "Ring", "Local Connection", "Local Connection 2", is "enabled", and the connection status is " Connect "," local connection "," device name "of" local connection 2 "is our network card model, which proves that both interfaces can be used to connect two network segments in the LAN. The two interfaces are given in the "Regular" sub-items of IP Routing, and their respective subnets and their respective traffic statistics are given. In the Windows 98 system of other computers in the two network segments, select "Control Panel" - "Network" - Select "TCP / IP-NIC Type" (in this case as Realtek 8139), click Properties, find " Gateway tab, the gateway to be added to the first network segment is 10.0.0.1 The gateway to be added in the first network segment is 192.168.0.1. (Figure 4)

At this point, the router has initially active, which can be used to connect 10.0.0.0.0.0.5, two different network segments from 192.168.0.2 to 192.168.0.5. We must test, the specific method is to select a computer in the first network segment to send packets to any computer in the second network segment, and track, observe the router forwarding the packet. Type Tracert to 192.168.0.2 under "MS-DOS Mode" on a computer 10.0.0.2, as follows:

Tracing route to 192.168.0.2 over a maximum over 5 of 30 hops: 0 10.0.0.2 1 10.0.0.1 2 192.168.0.1 3 192.168.0.2 TRASETE

The packet successfully passed two network interfaces, reached the destination, and then used the PING inspection between the two machines, and the response can be received, which proves that there is already an interactive data between the two machines, and two network segments.

In fact, this example is promoted, we can get how to connect three computers with four network cards. There are many times, we want to connect three computers with twisted pairs, and don't want to buy a hub. From the perspective of cost savings, we can buy a network card, set a computer to router, other two computers set up different networks The IP address of the segment is interconnected by the router. Although the peer-to-peer network is set up, although there is a certain inconvenience to the network game, it can be exchanged with each other, or you can share the Internet. More importantly, you can form a fast Ethernet of more than 100 m, which is unable to use the cable.

In the third step, configure the static route. If you connect three network segments (Figure 5) with two routers, you need to tell the first address of the third network segment of the router, but also tell the address of the third router's first network segment. This is "static route", the specific configuration method is as follows.

In the routing manager of the first router, find "Static Routing" in "IP Routing" Click Mouse

Right-click, open the "Static Routing" Add dialog, find 10.0.0.1 network interface, ("Local Connect" in this example, then type the network number of the third network segment, that is, typed 172.16 in "Target". 0.0 (Note: This is the network number, not the host IP address, so the last bit is 0) Network mask is 255.255.0.0

The gateway is 172.16.0.1 (Figure 6), the same reason, in the third router, the network interface of 172.16.0.1 is also found, adding "Target" to 10.0.0.0 network mask 255.0.0.0, the gateway is 10.0. Static route of 0.1. Add method to the same.

This shows that static routes require administrators to plan the network path in advance, and to manually update the routing table. Therefore, static routes are not suitable for large networks, only play a role in a small-scale local area network. Last describes that if the type of network is a client / server network, the router is to be added to the domain so that the administrator will implement unified management through the domain controller.
