Chapter 1 Introduction
• What is Total Commander
Total Commander is a powerful Windows Explorer Terminator. With its convenient use, powerful, considerate considerable stickers, stable and reliable conquering countless computer old birds. The biggest feature of Total Commander is composed of two list windows, which avoids a series of drawbacks of the Windows Explorer Directory tree in file operations:
First, after selecting a folder, if you want to look at another folder, you must first lose the current choice, and then you need to perform the previous choice (copy or move). The last selection folder; secondly, put a folder on the side of the directory tree to move or copy, if the destination directory is far apart, it is an extremely painful thing - pressing the mouse to drag the file. • Beyond Resource Manager
Let's take a look at the Total Commander smarter than the resource manager:
• Move or delete files in the Explorer if there is a file that cannot move or delete will result in failure of the entire operation. You are allowed to "skip" in Total Commander to continue the following operations.
• Total Commander automatically detects the size of the target disk before copying or movement, does not report error when the space is not enough to be in a resource manager.

• Copying the file from the CD will copy the read-only properties together, and if you want to modify on your hard disk, you have to remove read-only if it is the program that is directly executed, and unexpected errors. Total Commander automatically changes the "Read-only" property to "Archive" attributes to avoid the trouble above.
• Specific function: Place the file in all subdirectors in the current folder together; directly display all the size of all folders in the main window ... The function of the resource manager does not want to dream.
(1) Compress file
Compressed files we have accessible almost every day, have to attach a bunch of compression software such as WinZip, WinRAR, and learn their usage by one by one. Starting with Windows Me, Microsoft joins the support of ZIP files in the operating system, allowing the compressed package to operate as convenient as a folder. Total Commander is better, but not only supports multiple formats such as ZIP, RAR, ACE and the self-destructive compressed files generated by various compression software, but also all functions with ordinary compression software: create self-extracting packages, divided compression packages, once Unzip multiple compressed packages, and the like. (5), powerful built-in viewer
After using the built-in viewer, you will find that the speed of Windows notepad is too slow! It can open any size text files with the fastest speed, the least resource, and supports the file opened in Unicode, binary, and hexadecimal format. The downloaded language is placed in the Language subdirectory in the Total Commander installation directory. Select "Simplified Chinese" from the menu "Configuration" → "Options" → "Language" tab.
• Font setting
You must feel that the Chinese characters of Total Commander are difficult to see because it is used by default, open "Configuration" → "Configuration", set all the items in the "Font" tab to the Song, the font size Current resolution and its own preferences. Total Commander saves all settings in various resolutions in the initialization file.
• Add drive button
Open the Configuration tab, select the "Display Disk Buttons" and the two check boxes below it. At this time, a row driver button appears above each window and is more convenient to switch the drive.
• Customize toolbar
In Total Commander, you can easily add your usual files, directories, programs on the toolbar, just use the left mouse button to drag the file to the toolbar.
By default, the operation of Norton Commander (NC) under Total Commander and DOS is basically the same. The following settings will make Total Commander more suitable for those who are used to the resource manager.
• Color settings
Open the Color tab, set the "Selected item" color to dark blue, "Cursor" color is set to red, select the "Use Anti-color" check box.
• Operation method
Open the "Way" tab, select the "Left mouse button" in the Mouse Selection Mode group, "Select File" group box, select the "Simultaneous Select Directory", keep and resource manager selection. Select the "Letter - Using Find Dialog" in the "Quick Search" group box, used to quickly locate the file in the directory, click on a letter to skip files starting with the corresponding letter, but cannot use Chinese.
Open the "Other" tab, "Confirm Options" group box specified which operations need to be confirmed again. By default, Total Commander has selected all options in order to achieve the highest security. In fact, only the "overwriting file" is checked.
• display setting

Don't select "Display 8.3 file names in lowercase (such as resource manager), avoiding the case of the file name and the actual inconsistency, resulting in a strange error that cannot be uploaded to the web page on UNIX.
• Compressed settings
Total Commander's built-in compressor supports compressed ZIP, TAR, GZ, TGZ format, unzipped ZIP, ARJ, LZH, RAR, TAR, GZ, CAB, and ACE format, but does not support decompression encrypted ZIP files, which require external compression Software support, select Zip Decompression Programs in the Zip Compression Settings tab. If you need to compress the compressed package in other formats, specify the corresponding program in the Compression Program tab. • Built-in viewer settings

Set the initialization file
Many important settings of Total Commander are saved in the WinCMD.ini file, which is saved by default in the Windows directory. You can modify it make Total Commander more suitable for yourself. StartupScreen = 0 does not display the startup screen
The following settings can improve the copy speed of the big file. The author has made a small test, copy a 595 megaby size file from the D disk from the D disk on the Quantteng fireball hard drive, and use 4 minutes and 32 seconds before modifying it. After 2 minutes, 25 seconds, the effect is still very obvious.
CopyBlockSize = 32 Set the size of the block when copying the file, the unit is KB, the minimum value (default) is 32
CopyHuGeblocksize = When copying very large files, the cache to bypass the hard disk directly read and write files. The minimum is 10MB, only the file larger than this value is copied in this way, and the small file uses the setblocksize setting.
CopyBlockSizeother = 32 Sets the size of the block when copying the file between different hard drives, this value is better, because two hard drives can be read at the same time when copying. And a single hard drive has to swithel in the source file and the target file, so a big block is better.
CopyHuGeBlocksizeother = Sets the size of a large file when copying between different hard drives. Minimum: 256 kb.

• Common operation
Commonly used operations such as viewing, copying, moving, deleting, etc. have been listed below Total Command, and then click the appropriate button or press the appropriate shortcuts (F3 ~ F7) to complete the operation. You can also use the mouse to complete with the mouse in Windows, and the left mouse is directly to the two windows. It is copied, and the right click can be dragged like the resource manager. Select your own action. • Directory switching
There are two buttons in each file window, the "/" button is transferred to the root directory (shortcut Ctrl /), ".." button to the previous directory (shortcut Back Space). Pressing the shortcut key Ctrl D to add a commonly used directory to your favorites, double-click the left mouse button on the title bar of the file window. You can also open your favorites. Ctrl → or ←, open the folder or compressed package under the cursor in another window. Alt ↓ Display history folders, Alt ← to the previous visited directory, Alt → to the latter directory.
• Select a document
Total Commander provides more methods for selecting files than resource manager. • Multi-file rename
First select multiple files to be renamed, press the shortcut key Ctrl T to start the rename tool. It is very simple, here gives two techniques: 1. • Compressed file
Use the right-click the file you want to compress when compressed files, and you can see the File Compression command under the Copy command (shortcut ALT F5). Total Commander has cleared the advantages of other compressed programs together. There are many files like many installed programs, they are all saved in a compressed package. Double-click the installer, click "Unzip all files and execute", after the installation is complete, return to Total Commander Click "OK", the generated temporary file is automatically deleted. If you modify the content of the temporarily decompressed file, Total Commander prompts whether the modified content is reclaimed to the compressed package. For files in the zip compression package, you can rename them directly, you can see the "Rename" command with the right-click file.
In Total Commander, all compressed files can be entered like a folder, but sometimes we want to use professional compression software to open what to do? Very simple, use the right-click to compress file, select the file name written by the black body with the upper part, and you open the compression package with the default associated software.
• Unpack files (shortcuts Alt F9)
The compressed package can double-click on the folder, and drag the file to decompress with the left mouse to another window. Total Commander can decompress multiple files at a time, and you can put files in each compressed package to folders with the compressed package, and can be implemented in the decompression window selection "decompress each compressed package to their respective directories". • Built-in viewer

• Modify the time attribute of the folder

• Save time and effort
The directory tree of the Windows Explorer is of course not a display, and it is convenient to shuttle through the tree-like tree directory. Favorites design greatly reduces the positioning difficulties caused by Total Commander without a directory tree. According to 80/20 principles, in hundreds of folders, our commonly used folders do not exceed 20, just put these 20 folders into the favorites to avoid a lot of waste on the folder.
Double-click Total Commander's field (Ctrl D) to open, add, or delete favorites, easy to jump between all common directories, but when the added directory is increasing, the list will become very long, Total Commander The author has taken into account this issue, he allows us to add a submenu. First add all the directories you want to collect to your favorites, then double-click the section to select "Configuration", add the parent directory with the Add Submenu, and use the left mouse button to drag the added directory to the parent directory. • Integrated SFV and MD5 check
