Linux Software Provider Novell Alerts SUSE users, found a major security vulnerability in Linux core 2.6, which may cause the system to crash.
As we all know, Linux core 2.6 is completed by the end of last year. The new version of the kernel adds many features for enterprise users. But it also left a lot of safety hazards.
The significant security vulnerability of this discovery is in the 2.6-core processing mode of the IPTables firewall login. This vulnerability only affects the use of iptables-based firewall systems such as SUSE FireWall II.
Typically, hackers can control the system with a malicious package, and ultimately lead to the system crash. Currently, Novell has set this vulnerability to level 9 in 10 security levels.
The product running 2.4 kernel is not affected by the vulnerability, including Red Hat and Mandrakesoft Enterprise Server Products. In addition, SUSE Linux 9.2 is equally unaffected because the version system has fixed the vulnerability based on 2.6.8 kernel.
