Having recently discovered that the server that can be connected with Remote Desktop cannot be connected. The reason is because the Terminal Service component is installed on the server. Solution is simple:
(1) Uninstall the Terminal Service in Windows Components using Control Panel - Add / Remove Programs.
(2) Use the My Computer's Properties dialog to select Allow Users to Connect Remotely To this Computer in Remote Tab.
analysis:
In Windows 2000 Server, support for Remote Desktop is supported by the Terminal Service Remote Administration Mode, so if you want to connect to Windows 2000 Server with Remote Desktop Client, you must install Terminal Service on Server, and set the Remote Administration mode, this In mode, Terminal Service does not require License, but limits up to two concurrent connections.
In contrast, Application Sharing Mode, which does not limit the number of concurrent connections, but limits license. When you install Terminal Service, Windows will give a temporary license. After a period of time, it is no longer connected.
Windows Server 2003 will completely separate two modes, and the Remote Administration mode is set via My Computer's properties, and Application Sharing Mode is installed through the Terminal Server component, so there is no longer the concept of MODE. But in fact, it is still dependent on Windows Service for the same Terminal Service.
Remote Desktop Client Priority uses Terminal Server to connect, so after the Terminal Server License expires, even if you set the Allow Users to Connect Remotely To this Computer, it is still unable to connect, which should be the above problem.
